Role Overview

The Senior Director, Enterprise Portfolio Management is responsible for establishing and leading the organization's enterprise portfolio management function, ensuring strategic initiatives are aligned with corporate objectives and deliver measurable business value. This executive leader provides governance, oversight, and direction for enterprise portfolios, driving standardized portfolio management practices, financial stewardship, resource optimization, risk management, and executive decision-making.

 

The Senior Director partners closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, technology leaders, finance, and project delivery teams to prioritize investments, optimize portfolio performance, and ensure successful execution of strategic initiatives. This role fosters a culture of transparency, accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven portfolio management across the enterprise.

Duties & Responsibilities

Enterprise Portfolio Management Strategy

    • Develop and execute the enterprise portfolio management strategy aligned with organizational goals and long-term business priorities
    • Establish portfolio management capabilities, standards, and operating models that enable effective prioritization and execution of strategic investments
    • Drive enterprise-wide portfolio maturity through continuous process improvement and adoption of best practices
    • Partner with executive leadership to evaluate strategic initiatives and investment opportunities

 

Portfolio Governance and Methodology

    • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise portfolio governance frameworks, policies, standards, and decision-making processes
    • Chair or facilitate portfolio governance forums, steering committees, and executive review boards
    • Ensure consistent application of portfolio management methodologies across business and technology portfolios
    • Develop portfolio intake, prioritization, approval, and lifecycle management processes
    • Monitor compliance with governance standards and organizational policies

 

Portfolio Financial and Resource Management

    • Oversee enterprise portfolio budgeting, forecasting, investment planning, and financial performance
    • Partner with Finance to manage capital and operating investment portfolios
    • Build enterprise resource planning methodology, tools and standards
    • Provide resource plans to inform portfolio prioritization and planning discussions with executive stakeholders
    • Optimize allocation of resources, talent, and organizational capacity across portfolio and strategic initiatives
    • Monitor portfolio funding utilization and recommend investment adjustments based on changing business priorities
    • Develop financial reporting and investment analysis supporting executive decision-making

 

Portfolio Performance Management

    • Establish enterprise portfolio metrics, KPIs, dashboards, and executive reporting
    • Monitor portfolio health, delivery performance, benefits realization, and strategic alignment
    • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve portfolio performance and organizational outcomes
    • Lead portfolio reviews and facilitate executive decisions regarding priorities, investments, and resource allocation
    • Promote continuous improvement using portfolio analytics and performance trends

 

Portfolio Risk and Dependency Management

    • Establish enterprise processes for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating portfolio risks
    • Manage cross-functional dependencies across programs, projects, and strategic initiatives
    • Escalate significant portfolio risks, issues, and constraints to executive leadership with recommended mitigation strategies
    • Ensure enterprise risks are proactively managed while maintaining alignment with organizational risk tolerance
    • Facilitate contingency planning for critical initiatives

 

Executive Stakeholder Management

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership regarding enterprise investment decisions and portfolio strategy
    • Build strong partnerships with business executives, technology leaders, finance, operations, and functional stakeholders
    • Present portfolio performance, investment recommendations, and strategic insights to executive leadership and governance committees
    • Drive organizational alignment across competing priorities while fostering collaboration and transparency
    • Influence strategic decision-making through effective communication and data-driven recommendations

Experience & Qualifications

Education

    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance, Engineering, Organizational Leadership, Project Management, or a related field

 

Experience

    • Minimum 12 years of experience in:
      • Progressive leadership experience in portfolio management, program management, project management, strategy execution, or PMO leadership

      • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing enterprise portfolio governance frameworks

      • Experience leading organizational transformation, change management, and process improvement initiatives

      • Experience partnering with executive leadership on enterprise strategy, investment planning, and organizational prioritization

    • Minimum 8 years of experience in:
      • Leading enterprise portfolio management or enterprise PMO functions within complex organizations

      • Proven success managing large, cross-functional strategic portfolios with significant capital and operational investment

      • Experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning

      • Experience working across both business and technology organizations

      • Experience with enterprise portfolio management and project management tools

 

Software/Technical Skills

    • Knowledge of enterprise portfolio management platforms such as Planview, ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM), Microsoft Project Online, Clarity PPM, Jira Align, or similar solutions.
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint, for executive reporting and presentations.
    • Familiarity with business intelligence and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms.

    • Strong negotiation, relationship management, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority

       

    • Ability to lead enterprise-wide transformation, program management, and organizational change initiatives in complex, matrixed organizations

       

    • Ability to balance strategic priorities with operational execution while effectively managing multiple high-priority initiatives in a complex, fast-paced environment

       

    • Commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, innovation, accountability, integrity, and sound business judgment with a focus on delivering measurable organizational value

       

    • Advanced financial planning, portfolio budgeting, forecasting, and benefits realization analysis skills

       

    • Deep expertise in Enterprise Portfolio Management (EPM) principles, methodologies, and best practice, including but not limited to: portfolio reporting, KPI development, executive dashboard creation, resource capacity planning, demand management, risk management, dependency management, portfolio governance, investment management, strategic planning 

       

    • Strong understanding of project and program management frameworks, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models

       

    • Ability to build high-performing teams

       

Additional Details for This Role

This role will be a hybrid role. Subject to business needs, employees may work remotely up to two days per week. Assigned office days will be determined by your manager. #LI-Hybrid

 

Base Salary

    • The targeted base salary range for this position is $195,000 - $235,000 per year.
    • Base salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the successful candidate, as well as factors such as internal equity, cost of labor in the hiring location, and alignment with market data.

 

Additional Compensation

    • This position is eligible for a 50% bonus at 100% of target, with the opportunity to achieve above 100% dependent on company performance and in alignment with company bonus plans.
    • Bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon individual performance as well as Brother achieving its corporate objectives, in accordance with the applicable bonus plan in effect.
