Plant Environmental Control Engineer

Ford's Environmental Quality Office is looking for an Environmental Engineer to join our team on a temporary contract of just over one year, covering an employee's maternity leave. In this role, you will provide technical and regulatory support across environmental areas such as air, water, wastewater, waste, tanks, and remediation, helping ensure compliance and supporting Ford's Corporate Footprint and Manufacturing objectives. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental compliance within a global automotive manufacturing environment.

• Provide technical and regulatory support for one or more environmental media/operational areas (air, water, wastewater, waste, tanks, materials, Environmental Operating System, ISO14001, site reports, decommissioning, remediation, permitting, modeling, regulatory communications, testing, site audits, focus visits, etc.).
• Support the achievement of Corporate Footprint and Manufacturing business plan objectives and targets, including compliance index, water usage, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and hydrocarbon management.
• Develop accurate and complete correspondence (reports, permit applications, etc.) to support site environmental compliance, legacy and site remediation projects, and business plan objectives.
• Track progress and spending on environmental capital and expense projects to ensure action items are completed on time and within budget.
• Support technical aspects of environmental systems, including the Environmental Operating System, site decommissioning, compliance assurance, and management reviews.
• Utilize environmental software applications (ICSM, I-Points, Business Objects, SharePoint, E-tracker, modeling software) to help achieve site business objectives and targets.
• Build strong, productive working relationships with environmental professionals and manufacturing/non-manufacturing contacts throughout the company.
• Apply standard procedures and best practices to ensure site environmental compliance and achieve business plan objectives.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable national, regional, and local environmental requirements.
• Represent Ford's interests on environmental matters through interaction with external entities, including regulatory agencies, community groups, and trade/professional organizations.
• Support facility and product programs through necessary permit actions, capacity planning studies, and environmental project funding requests.
• Ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities and knowledge continuity upon return of the employee on maternity leave.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering is required.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and oral, are required.

Experience:

• 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental engineering, regulatory compliance, or a related field.
• Fundamental understanding of environmental rules and regulations.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and operations.

Skills:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate proficiency with computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint, data tracking and modeling tools).
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
• Adaptability to quickly learn processes and integrate into an ongoing team environment, given the temporary nature of the role.
