Lark Maintenance Shop is a repair shop that provides specialty repair services to the Duke Energy Generation Fleet. The primary focus of the shop is reverse engineering components, refurbishment/replacement of aged components, repair of turbine-generator related components, complete overhaul of balance-of-plant pumps and responding to fleet needs to support the generation assets. The shop is composed of skilled personnel that work both independently and as a team to provide a high level of customer service to Duke Energy. The Lark Machine Shop Technician is a progressive position requiring individuals to work in a machine shop environment to support the Duke Energy Generation Fleet. Individuals in this position must be agile in their skillsets and have the ability to be flexible since the work is directly dictated by the priorities of the fleet. Individuals in this role have a minimum background in manual machining capabilities and further their advancement with other detailed skillsets (e.g., specialty welding, CNC machine operator/programmer, equipment specialist (pumps, valves, turbine components).
Ability to disassemble various mechanical equipment (e.g. pumps, valves, gearboxes) and inspect components
Perform machining operations associated with the repair, refurbishment or creation of new mechanical components. This will include lathe operations, milling operations, boring operations, drilling operations, grinding operations. Qualified to use precision instruments to an accuracy of 0.001”. Performs inspection and manufacture of parts using precision measuring and testing equipment (M&TE) including OD and ID micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial gauges, hardness testers, XRF analyzer.
Operation of various location vehicles and equipment. Including: forklifts, pickup trucks, man lifts, (scissor and boom lifts), steam cleaners, sandblasters, water jet, oxy/fuel cutting operations.
Maintain proficiency to safely inspect/install/use rigging with overhead pendant cranes up to 60T capacity. Ability to safely use rigging and lifting techniques to transport and invert large components.
Preventive maintenance on equipment, housekeeping during operations.
Ability to travel to support fleet requests

Basic Qualifications
Lark Maintenance Shop Technician I - Highschool Diploma/GED
Lark Maintenance Shop Technician II - Highschool Diploma/GED AND 3 years minimum required related work experience
Lark Maintenance Shop Technician III - Highschool Diploma/GED AND 8 years minimum required related work experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Technical school or applicable military training preferred.
• Journeyman mechanic/millwright certification preferred but not required.
• Apprentice program completion preferred but not required.
• NCCCO/NCCCR certification for mobile and/or bridge crane preferred, but not required.
• Prior experience with the setup and operation of manual and CNC machines, including
lathes, milling machines, turning centers, waterjet operations, oxy/acetylene tables.
• Prior experience with the setup and operation of both horizontal and vertical boring machines.
• Prior experience with field machining operations (boring bars, stud removal, flange facing, etc.)
• Prior experience with repairing turbine/generator related components (e.g. diaphragms, blade rings, packing boxes, oil seals/deflectors, valve subassemblies, etc.)
Working Conditions
• Majority of work takes place in a controlled maintenance repair shop environment.
Specific Requirements
Ability to set up and operate safely and independently; manual lathes, milling machines, boring machines, (both horizontal and vertical), grinders, drills and large metal cutting saws.
Ability to perform machining operations to hold close tolerances, (+/-.001”).
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures.
Ability and willingness to follow work instructions or procedures as required.
Ability to effectively use computer software (Inventor-CAD, Microsoft Office programs, SharePoint online etc.).
Ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment along with maintaining shop housekeeping during operations.
Remain agile to support the fleet outside of home base location as needed.
In addition to basic machining this position will be required to maintain at least one of the following detailed skillsets:
CNC Machine Operator/Programmer (Ability to use CNC equipment (lathes, mills, waterjet) both by CAD/CAM program operation and manual user interface (G-code) for component manufacture and repair. Ability to safely set up and operate CNC equipment.
Advanced Machinist with demonstrated ability to perform more complex and advanced machining exercises. Qualified to use precision instruments to an accuracy of 0.0001”. Ability to perform machining operations to hold close tolerances, (+/-.0005). Performs inspection and manufacture of parts using precision measuring and testing equipment (M&TE) including: OD and ID micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial gauges, hardness testers, XRF analyzer. Ability to utilize digital metrology equipment (e.g. FARO, Hexagon, Leika) along with associated software (Inspire).
Travel Requirements
5-15%
