Job Description

The Learning Strategy & Operations Lead at Associate Director level is the primary program development lead within the Learning Strategy & Operations group, accountable for designing and delivering the global Medical capability programs and learning content that make the world-class learning ambition a reality. Working within the learning architecture and governance standards set by the Director, this role builds the learning experiences that Medical teams across the enterprise engage with on Bloom.

The role works closely with the Medical Core Capability Strategy Leads and the Global Scientific Training team to ensure capability programs are coherent, integrated, and well-governed within the Bloom environment. It also leads the global Medical onboarding program, ensuring new Medical Affairs colleagues have a high-quality, consistent experience that reflects the standard of the function from day one.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Capability Program Development & Delivery

  • Lead the design and development of global Medical capability programs across the enterprise learning portfolio, including leadership development, field medical effectiveness, business acumen, digital dexterity, and market access capability, working within the learning architecture defined by the Director
  • Bring instructional design expertise to the development of programs, ensuring learning approaches are modern, engaging, evidence-based, and effective across modalities including digital, immersive, virtual, and blended learning
  • Embed performance improvement and outcomes measurement into program design from the outset, ensuring every program has clear effectiveness indicators and that evidence of behavioral change is systematically gathered, reported, and used to drive continuous improvement
  • Partner with the Medical Core Capability Strategy Leads and the Global Scientific Training team to ensure capability programs are coherent with the enterprise capability framework and that scientific training curricula are integrated into the broader program portfolio in a well-governed way

2. Global Medical Onboarding Program

  • Own the design, development, and continuous improvement of the global Medical Affairs onboarding program, ensuring new colleagues have a consistent, high-quality onboarding experience grounded in global Medical Excellence standards
  • Work closely with the Global Medical Excellence Leads network, IBU Medical Excellence & Operations, and the Global Scientific Training team to ensure onboarding content is current, relevant, and aligned to the specific needs of different Medical roles and market contexts

3. Bloom Content Development & Curation

  • Lead the development and ongoing curation of capability program content on Bloom, ensuring all content meets the governance standards set by the Director and the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations, and that the program portfolio remains current, relevant, and additive
  • Actively build internal content design and development capability within the team, growing the skills needed to produce high-quality program content directly and reducing reliance on external vendors over time
  • Manage external content development vendors within the shared budget allocation as a complement to growing internal capability, ensuring high-quality deliverables are received on time and within budget

4. Stakeholder Partnership

  • Work in close partnership with the Medical Core Capability Strategy Leads, the Global Scientific Training team, IBU Medical Excellence & Operations, and the broader Medical Excellence network to ensure programs are co-created, fit for purpose, and consistently deployed across all markets and BUs
  • Support the Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations and the Director in presenting program proposals, progress updates, and effectiveness data to key stakeholders across the Global Medical Excellence function

DIMENSIONS & ASPECTS

  • Strong expertise in instructional design, program development, adult learning principles, performance improvement, and outcomes measurement, with practical experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale Medical Affairs capability programs across multiple learning modalities
  • Works collaboratively and with influence across the Medical Excellence network, Global Scientific Training, and IBU Medical Excellence, building credibility through the quality, relevance, and measurable impact of the programs developed and delivered
  • Decision authority within the program development domain, accountable for the design quality, coherence, performance improvement framework, and Bloom governance compliance of capability programs developed within the group
  • Primary relationships: Head, Medical Capability Strategy & Operations (line manager), Learning Strategy & Operations Director and SM (group colleagues), Medical Core Capability Strategy Leads, Global Scientific Training Leads, IBU Medical Excellence & Operations, Global Medical Excellence Leads network

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Relevant degree in learning sciences, instructional design, life sciences, or related field required
  • 8+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with significant experience in Medical Affairs learning, capability development, or program design
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, program development, and delivery across digital, virtual, and blended learning modalities
  • Proven ability to embed performance improvement and outcomes measurement into programme design and to lead action plans based on effectiveness evidence
  • Experience building internal content design capability and managing external content development vendors in a global matrix environment
  • Strong knowledge of learning management systems and digital learning platforms including Bloom or equivalent
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and geographies without direct authority

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$169,400.00 - $266,200.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
