About the role:

Nerveli is seeking an organized, audience-focused Social Media & Community Management Intern to support the daily operation of our social media channels.

This intern will help turn approved content and campaign plans into a consistent, well-managed social presence. Responsibilities will center on maintaining the content calendar, scheduling and publishing posts, monitoring channel activity, engaging appropriately with community members, and escalating questions or sensitive issues to the correct team member.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in social media strategy, brand communications, online communities, and digital channel operations.

Compensation and academic credit: This is an unpaid educational internship. Students may be eligible to receive academic credit through their college or university. Credit is not guaranteed and must be approved and arranged with the student’s academic institution before the internship begins. Nerveli will reasonably assist with required documentation and evaluations.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update the organization’s social media content calendar.
  • Schedule, quality-check, and publish approved posts across assigned platforms.
  • Confirm that captions, links, tags, visual assets, and accessibility elements are accurate before publication.
  • Monitor comments, mentions, messages, tags, and relevant online conversations.
  • Respond to routine community interactions using approved brand guidance.
  • Escalate complaints, sensitive conversations, misinformation, or potential reputational issues promptly.
  • Help maintain a consistent brand voice across social channels.
  • Track deadlines, approvals, asset status, and publication dates.
  • Coordinate with the design team to obtain required creative assets.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team on channel trends and performance findings.
  • Identify frequently asked questions, recurring audience feedback, and potential engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with social listening, partner engagement, and community-building initiatives.
  • Keep platform profiles, links, highlights, and other channel information current.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, business, or a related field.
  • Strong written communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and their publishing conventions.
  • Highly organized and comfortable working with calendars, checklists, and deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to recognize when an interaction should be escalated.
  • Professional, reliable, and attentive to detail.
  • Comfortable communicating with the public in an established organizational voice.

Helpful, but not required
  • Experience managing a student organization, small business, nonprofit, or personal brand account.
  • Familiarity with social scheduling or management tools, such as Hootsuite or Sprout
  • Experience with community moderation or customer service.
  • Basic understanding of social media metrics and reporting.
  • Awareness of accessibility and inclusive-language practices.

What you will gain
  • Hands-on experience managing active organizational social channels.
  • Practice using editorial calendars, publishing workflows, and approval processes.
  • Experience with community engagement, social listening, and brand voice.
  • Exposure to reputation-management and escalation practices.
  • An understanding of how creative production, channel management, and analytics work together.

Success in this role

By the end of the internship, the Social Media & Community Management Intern should be able to operate an accurate and dependable publishing workflow, maintain timely community monitoring, and contribute to a consistent and responsive social media presence.
