An SOE (Service Operations Engineering) Cloud Architect for McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) will help design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions for McKesson’s customer-critical SaaS product offerings. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud platforms (Azure preferred), infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native application design. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align cloud strategies with our SaaS offerings and business goals to ensure optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and security.
This individual will be responsible for translating the client's business requirements into specific systems, applications, or process designs for large, highly integrated, and complex cloud solutions. The SOE Architect acts as an advocate for the client, as the ultimate authority on the architecture designed to address client business problems and will provide direction for design activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure.
- Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts for mission-critical SaaS applications.
- Partner with engineering, DevOps, and security teams to improve platform performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Provide architectural guidance for Java-based applications, containerized workloads, and large-scale database environments.
- Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, automation strategies, and best practices.
- Support customer-facing technical discussions and complex issue resolution.
- Establish and promote cloud governance, security, and compliance standards.
- Contribute to the adoption of AI-enabled tools and capabilities that enhance engineering productivity and innovation.
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience.
Critical Skills
- 4+ years experience in designing, building, and implementing software business solutions on cloud platforms
- Experience with / knowledge of various architectural techniques and implementations such as Services Oriented Architecture, loosely coupled design techniques, composite application design, and cloud architecture
- Familiarity with crosscutting non-functional requirements of cloud technologies including security, performance, scalability, maintainability (deployment), reliability, and supportability
- Experience in a customer-facing technical consultancy setting
- Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability and willingness to develop and maintain internal- and customer-facing technical and procedural documentation
- Familiarity with high-availability technologies, concepts, and architectural techniques provided by the cloud
- Understanding of information security and risk management concepts, regulations, and certifications including disaster recovery, PHI, HIPAA, PCI, etc.; and information security and system access control policies and processes
- Experience architecting cloud solutions on platforms such as Azure using technologies such as AKS, Docker, Function Apps, Service Buses, Storage Accounts, etc.
- Experience with A.I. related tools such as CoPilot to speed application architecture and software design
Technical Skills
- Experience designing and supporting cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure, including AKS, Function Apps, Service Bus, and related platform services.
- Strong background with Java applications and enterprise architecture principles.
- Experience with Oracle and large-scale database-driven applications.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix administration, scripting, and cloud operations.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or Azure Monitor.
- Understanding of security, identity management, disaster recovery, and high-availability design.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences, including customers.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy, or other highly regulated technology environments.
- Experience leading enterprise cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled development, architecture, or operational tools.
- Azure certifications or other cloud architecture certifications.
- Experience with large-scale SaaS platforms and complex production environments.
- Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Experience managing large-scale systems or operations projects
