CLASS DEFINITION

A Civil Engineering Drafting Technician II lays out and draws complex plans following the design of an engineer and designs simple projects following standard engineering practices and procedures. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where few hazards or uncomfortable conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in performing drafting work including one year of experience in engineering drafting work.

OR

NOTES EQUIVALENCY: Have completion of one year of the required coursework in an engineering technology or related curriculum in an accredited college or university may be substituted for each year of the non-specialized experience requirement.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of drafting materials, equipment, practices and procedures.

  • Skill in drawing and lettering complex plats, maps and charts.

  • Ability to perform complex calculations involving algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications.

  • Ability to translate survey notes into maps, plans, profiles and cross-section drawings.

  • Ability to work neatly and accurately.

  • Ability to design basic engineering projects.

Probation 

All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation. 

Eligibility 

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.     

                                                        

Education Accreditation 

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org. 

Selection Process 

All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Examination Process
