Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an Apprentice Plumber (1st, 2nd or 3rd Year) to support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance services within one of the Gold Coast's largest and most significant healthcare and education environments. Reporting directly to the site leadership team, you will work collaboratively with both client and BGIS teams while developing your trade skills through hands-on experience, structured learning, and ongoing mentoring.

The ideal candidate will be reliable, eager to learn, and motivated to build a long-term career in the plumbing industry. You will enjoy working as part of a supportive team, learning from experienced tradespeople, and contributing to a safe and positive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with plumbing repairs, maintenance activities, and installation works.
  • Inspect and replace damaged components and materials under supervision.
  • Learn to interpret technical drawings, plans, and site documentation.
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, and elevated work platforms as required.
  • Support planned and reactive maintenance activities across the site.
  • Work collaboratively with tradespeople, subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives.
  • Participate in the BGIS Apprentice Training Program and complete all required learning modules.
  • Maintain compliance with safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Develop practical trade skills while supporting the ongoing operation of a large healthcare precinct.

Education, Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • White Card (General Construction Induction Card).
  • Minimum Year 10 Certificate.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop plumbing trade skills.
  • Basic numeracy and measurement skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to professional development.

Desirable:

  • Previous exposure to construction, maintenance, facilities management, or trade environments.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools.
  • Current participation in a plumbing apprenticeship program.
  • Interest in building maintenance and healthcare facilities environments.

To support your development, this position will be based on-site in Southport within a major healthcare environment. You will gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside experienced tradespeople while completing your apprenticeship and building your practical trade skills.
