Accounting Services Supervisor
The Accounting Services Supervisor serves as the primary day-to-day leader of the Accounting Services team and acts as the first point of escalation for staff and client service issues. This position is responsible for overseeing workflow execution, reviewing accounting work, coaching and developing team members, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring consistent service delivery across the department.
The Accounting Services Supervisor works closely with the Accounting Services Manager to support department operations, improve efficiency, develop staff, and maintain high-quality client service. This role serves as a bridge between staff accountants/senior accountants and department leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Staff Development
Provide daily guidance, support, and coaching to accounting staff and senior accountants.
Serve as the first point of contact for technical and workflow questions.
Review staff work and provide timely feedback to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
Monitor staff workload and capacity and recommend workload adjustments when necessary.
Identify development opportunities and assist in creating growth plans for team members.
Participate in employee performance evaluations and provide feedback to department leadership.
Workflow Management
Monitor department workflow to ensure client deadlines are met.
Coordinate work assignments among team members.
Track completion of recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual client deliverables.
Escalate capacity concerns, deadline risks, and client issues to the Accounting Services Manager.
Assist in maintaining department procedures, checklists, and best practices.
Help implement workflow improvements and process efficiencies.
Client Service & Technical Review
Manage a portfolio of recurring accounting service clients.
Review monthly or quarterly financial statements, reconciliations, payroll entries, sales tax filings, and other accounting deliverables.
Assist staff with complex accounting issues and troubleshooting.
Participate in client meetings, including board meetings as needed.
Ensure consistency and quality of client deliverables across the department.
Support implementation of new accounting software and client conversions.
Operational Support
Assist with department reporting and monitoring key performance indicators.
Help ensure engagement profitability through efficient workflow management.
Support billing, budgeting, and realization objectives as assigned.
Assist in developing and maintaining department documentation and training resources.
Collaborate with firm leadership on departmental initiatives and special projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience preferred.
5-10 years of accounting experience (public accounting preferred).
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation.
Experience reviewing staff work and providing coaching and feedback.
Experience managing full payroll cycle, including payroll processing, payroll tax filings and deposits, payroll tax notice resolution, year-end reporting, payroll reconciliations, and payroll compliance.
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online and other accounting technology platforms.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
