You will report directly to the Executive Medical Director of the Digestive Health Institute. In addition, as part of this role, you will work closely with Hoag Family Cancer Institute - an accredited, comprehensive cancer care facility offering advanced diagnostic, medical, radiation, and surgical oncology services. This partnership supports a seamless, multidisciplinary approach to patient care and access to clinical trials, tumor boards, and state-of-the-art technology.
The role will balance clinical duties with administrative leadership responsibilities as Chief of Colorectal Surgery, including clinical, educational and research activities throughout the Hoag Health system.

- Location (Clinic): Newport Beach and Irvine, CA
- Hospital: Hoag Hospital – Newport Beach & Hoag Hospital - Irvine
- Schedule: Fulltime, Monday – Friday.
- Setting: Outpatient clinic and inpatient (Operating Room) duties
- Team: 4 Colorectal Surgeons, 2 Advanced Practice Provider
- Call: Provide Colorectal call coverage at Hoag Hospitals
- Support: Supportive referral network of hundreds of providers in the community
- EMR: Epic

Responsibilities:
- Patients with a wide variety of conditions including colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor dysfunction, and complex anorectal issues are managed in this division using endoscopic, trans-anal, open, and advanced laparoscopic/robotic surgical approaches.
- Opportunities to participate in research and clinical trials available
- Team-building within the digestive health institute as well as with the cancer institute, acute & general surgery and women's health services programs
- Participate in a team-oriented approach to patient care with a focus on high-quality, patient-centered outcomes
- Collaborate with a group of surgeons and APPs to manage inpatient care and call coverage
- Contribute to the growth and development of the colorectal surgery service line
- Engage with a strong network of primary care providers for referrals and continuity of care
- Work collaboratively with our Chief Quality Officer to continue improving patient outcomes and experience
- Stay current with advancements in surgical techniques, technologies, and research.
- Maintain accurate medical coding for procedures performed and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Provide compassionate care in various settings including clinics, senior care facilities, or hospice care environments as needed.
Experience/Requirements:
- A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution
- American Board Certified in Surgery – Colon and Rectal Surgery
- Must have or be eligible for California State Medical licensure
- Completion of a residency program from an ACGME accredited program in surgery
- Fellowship trained from an accredited Colon and Rectal fellowship program
- Ability to obtain full medical staff privileges at Hoag Hospital
- Complex laparoscopic and/or robotic surgical experience highly preferred
- Minimum of 6 years of experience preferred as a surgeon specializing within colorectal/cancer surgery
- Well versed in the surgical and medical management of benign and malignant conditions of the colon and rectum
- History of achievement in program development and program leadership (administrative oversight of personnel and facilities) highly preferred.
- Commitment to multidisciplinary team discussions, ongoing quality improvement, and patient centered initiatives Has excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
