We are seeking a skilled IT professional to join our team in supporting and enhancing the technology infrastructure at Thales Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our server environment, with a particular focus on Linux servers, storage solutions (SAN/NAS), and virtualisation platforms (ESX). Your work will cover all aspects of these systems, including software, automation, hardware, and overall system management. This position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of Thales systems and supporting our product offerings within the CIC team.

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux server operating systems across development, test, and production environments

  • Manage server lifecycle activities, including provisioning, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, and decommissioning

  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible Python,, or similar tools to streamline operational processes

  • Automate system administration tasks, software deployments, configuration management, and maintenance activities

  • Implement and maintain security hardening standards, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements

  • Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes for Linux systems

  • Work within ITIL framework to ensure all processes of Change, problem, incident, capacity and configuration management
     

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
To be successful in this role, you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours: 

  • Extensive experience with Linux operating systems, including installation, administration, troubleshooting, and security hardening

  • Familiarity with Windows Server OS and enterprise authentication technologies such as LDAP and Active Directory

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls) and system performance optimisation

  • Proficient with server virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware) and storage solutions, including SAN environments and backup/recovery processes

  • Knowledge of automation, orchestration, Infrastructure-as-Code practices, and enterprise monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Redhat Satellite, SolarWinds, ServiceNow, Ansible, Git)

  • Proven experience supporting large-scale enterprise Linux environments with a focus on reliability and security

  • Good troubleshooting skills to solve problems across in

  • Possess good time management and organisational skills
     

A Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.
