Overview of the Department/Team
Nuveen Natural Capital is a land-focused asset management platform. Combining expertise across farmland, timberland and ecological restoration investment specialists, we have over 40 years of land-based investing experience. With $14B of assets under management and 2.6 million acres across over 580 properties in 11 countries1, our platform is equipped to deliver investment solutions to protect and enhance nature, climate and people.
Program Overview
The Nuveen Rotational Program offers an exciting mix of strategically aligned assignments, professional development, and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of the Nuveen Natural Capital investment platform. The environment is challenging, collaborative and designed to accelerate learning and career development.
As a participant in the program, you will work closely with investment and asset management professionals, supporting the evaluation, execution and ongoing management of natural capital investments across farmland, timberland and ecological restoration strategies. You will gain exposure to the full investment lifecycle, including financial modelling, investment analysis, due diligence, portfolio monitoring and investment committee processes.
This role provides a unique opportunity to develop technical investment skills while building a strong understanding of how natural capital investments create value for clients, communities and the environment.
Program Highlights
This 2-year rotational program, you will have the opportunity to gain broad exposure to the Nuveen Natural Capital investment platform through rotations across investment, asset management and other key business functions.
During the programme, you will:
Build and maintain financial models to evaluate potential investment opportunities and support portfolio decision-making.
Conduct investment research, market analysis and due diligence on prospective acquisitions and investment themes.
Assist in the preparation of investment recommendations, business cases and supporting materials for senior investment professionals and Investment Committee meetings.
Support the ongoing asset management of farmland, timberland and ecological restoration investments, including performance monitoring and reporting.
Analyse operational, financial and sustainability data to identify trends, risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to help execute strategic initiatives and investment projects.
Contribute to client reporting, portfolio reviews and other materials used to communicate investment performance and strategy.
Upon successful completion of the programme, final placement will be based on rotational experience, performance and broader business needs.
The programme will begin in September 2026.
What skills & competencies we require:
You will need to have attained at least a notable grade (7.0 – 8.9) from a university (or equivalent) and have graduated by August 2026.
Investment Management Knowledge & Interest: Academic background or demonstrated interest in Natural Capital E.g. Relevant coursework; active participation in investment clubs; managing a virtual portfolio; following market commentary; reading financial news
Technical skills: Preferably have prior experience of coding such as VBA, and/or familiarity with Python and Bloomberg is a plus.
Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise written and verbal communications tailored to different audiences. E.g. You should be comfortable in preparing client ready emails, delivering presentations to a small group of your team or writing reports that inform decision-making.
Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in team settings by actively listening to others' perspectives, contributing constructively to group discussions. E.g. You should be able to adapt your working style to help deliver team goals & objectives.
Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to understand business problems from multiple angles, identify key drivers of outcomes, and propose solutions that balance competing priorities. E.g. Be able to demonstrate interest in understanding investment principles and how client needs align with product offerings.
Microsoft Office Proficiency: Strong competency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook & advanced in Excel). E.g. Creating financial models, using pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, data visualization, building scripts for data analysis, and automating tasks.
Initiative and Ownership: Track record of taking ownership of projects or responsibilities without constant supervision. E.g. You should be able to proactively identify problems and propose solutions, ensuring regular communication with where appropriate.
Language Requirements: fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal)
