This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in managing clinical research studies at Intermountain Healthcare. It is responsible for expertly coordinating clinical studies by collaborating with clinical investigators, physicians, department managers, regulatory coordinators, and sponsors. The Senior Clinical Research Coordinator provides expertise, consultation, and management support for planning, implementing, and disseminating clinical research studies and initiatives. Additionally, this role is responsible for training junior staff and supporting management in overseeing research operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and promoting best practices in clinical research.Posting Specifics

Essential Functions
- Research Support: Supports complex research studies across the Intermountain system with limited supervision, typically working on the most complex or largest programs. Acts as subject matter expert within study area and department domain.
- Supervision: Provides oversight and/or supervision to existing clinical research coordinators. Assesses competency in lab sample handling and reinforcing training.
- Protocol Knowledge & GCP Compliance: Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of protocols, educates others, participates in oversight visits, and ensures compliance with patient privacy and research regulatory requirements. Disseminates information about the project. Utilizes GCP guidelines for patient screening, study procedures, data entry, and monitoring, supporting study team and investigator compliance. Screens participants for eligibility and commitment. Supports existing study coordinators with screening best practices and training.
- Recruitment & Retention: Facilitates strategies for study recruitment, participant retention, study execution, and program performance.
- Team Management: Assists research manager in recruiting, managing workloads, caregiver check-ins, and team coaching. Helps to support team career development, enhancement, and engagement. Coordinates clinical patient information and assists physicians or residents.
- Training & Mentoring: Teaches clinical research techniques, mentors new coordinators, ensures compliance with policies and regulations, and facilitates training, education, and development activities. Facilitates and coordinates other training, education, and development activities for the team as appropriate.
- Quality Assurance & Data Review: May perform ongoing Quality Assurance and evaluations at study completion. Monitors participant progression and conducts end-of-study evaluations. Organizes periodic data reviews for enrollment and compliance, compares data against project goals, and compiles enrollment data.
- Issue Resolution & Leadership: Collaborates on issue resolution, maintains SOPs, participates in leadership meetings, manages study supplies, trains new hires, assesses coordinator needs, runs daily huddles, relays recognition, and assists in study prioritization when managers are unavailable. May contribute to writing reports, research papers, and other documentation of study results.

Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive professional experience in a clinical research role requiring use of laboratory protocol, systems and documentation techniques, detailed knowledge of human subject research regulations, strong demonstrated attention to detail and ability to adhere to policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.
- Experience in a role requiring effective organizational skills; effective follow-through, and commitment to excellence, effective professional communication skills; Ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner as well as strong interpersonal skills: Ability to work with personnel at all levels to gather information, communicate compliance requirements and handle complex issues within an often-sensitive political environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a clinical or life science field, business, or healthcare operations. A degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
- Experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
- A multi-disciplinary knowledge of both health care and research.
- Expertise and/or experience in the clinical specialty or area of focus related to this research role (ie cardiology, pulmonary, oncology, women and newborn, etc.)
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, etc. and to see to identify equipment and supplies and to utilize a wide variety of information including organizing and completing documentation and forms, accessing and entering computer information, and identifying needs and urgent issues.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient interactions, accessing needed information, operating telephones and other office equipment, including manipulating paper - requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
- Expected to bend, lift, and carry patient files, documents, equipment, and supplies.
- Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time while interacting with others or to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
