Junior Software Developer - Space Weather
Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Junior Software Developer to support a customer in Colorado Springs, CO, supporting the Space Weather Analysis Forecasting Service (SWAFS) GovCloud solution. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer to contribute to a mission-critical government program in a collaborative Agile environment.
What you'll do:
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle: definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and code deployment
- Write and maintain application code primarily in Java; exposure to JavaScript, Python, C#, or C++ is a plus
- Develop and execute unit tests to ensure quality of releasable software
- Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality
- Contribute to the SaFE/Agile backlog under the guidance of senior developers and the assigned SCRUM Master
- Collaborate with developers, testers, platform engineers, and software architects to produce and maintain code
- Support REST data/service integrations feeding into SaaS applications
- Assist in documenting processes, code, and technical decisions clearly and concisely
- Participate in usability reviews and contribute to improvements in software design
- Follow established design guidelines, best practices, and coding standards
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree and 2+ years of relevant software development experience; OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR 4+ years of relevant software development experience in lieu of a degree.
- This position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance
- Working knowledge of Java (primary language)
- Familiarity with SpringBoot or similar frameworks
- Basic familiarity with Docker and CI/CD concepts
- Basic knowledge of AWS development environment
- Experience with or exposure to Agile/Scrum development process
- Basic knowledge of Git and version control workflows
- Ability to document processes clearly and concisely
- Strong communication skills; able to work effectively in a team environment
- Flexible, able to meet deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities
Desired Qualifications
- Prior Space Weather coding experience or academic coursework
- Familiarity with Apache Camel
- Exposure to GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with C, C#, C++, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, or CSS
- Self-starter; able to work collaboratively or with minimum direction
- Basic knowledge of AWS/C2S Cloud environments
- Investigative/root-cause analysis skills for code issues
