Hello Heart is on a mission to make heart attacks a thing of the past.
We’re an AI company focused exclusively on heart health, building a platform that predicts and prevents cardiac events before they happen—identifying risk up to 10 days in advance versus 10 years in traditional clinical models.
This is already working at scale. Hello Heart has been shown to reduce inpatient hospital days by 47% and deliver ~$1,800 in annual savings per member. Hello Heart is the cardiac prevention partner to over 80% of large U.S. health plans and serves hundreds of public and private employers.
We’re defining how the #1 cause of death—heart disease—is managed in the AI era. Join us.
About the role:
We’re looking for a Design System Lead to own the vision, architecture, and evolution of Hello Heart’s design system across our mobile products. You’ll bring a systems mindset to building consistent, accessible, and scalable components, patterns, documentation, and workflows that help product teams move faster with higher quality.
Reporting to our Product Design Director, you will lead the end-to-end design system practice, from setting the long-term vision to designing, building, documenting, and maintaining a shared library used across product teams. You’ll work closely with design, engineering, product, and brand partners to evolve Hello Heart’s visual and interaction language, including typography, color, iconography, components, and shared patterns.
This role is ideal for a design leader who cares deeply about craft, accessibility, inclusion, and operational excellence. You’ll guide teams on how to use shared patterns, identify where new components are needed, and build the relationships and rituals that help the system scale as Hello Heart grows
Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategy, design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of Hello Heart’s product visual language, including typography, color, iconography, components, and interaction patterns.
- Own the tools, resources, contribution model, and documentation that support the design system and make it easier for teams to adopt and contribute to it.
- Conduct ongoing end-to-end audits of our user interface, visual design, and design system to identify inconsistencies, reduce design debt, and improve quality across the product.
- Partner closely with engineering and product teams to ensure components are usable, accessible, technically feasible, and implemented with high fidelity.
- Provide design leadership and guidance to product teams on shared patterns, system usage, and opportunities to create or evolve components within their workstreams.
- Identify, prioritize, and monitor design system initiatives across design, development, and documentation.
- Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships across the company, and evangelize design system adoption through clear communication and practical enablement.
- Support team growth and culture by identifying opportunities for designers to lead specific parts of the system and contribute to shared standards.
- Conduct regular one-on-one reviews with team members to understand successes, challenges, perspectives, and growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Hands-on AI fluency, with experience using AI tools or agents to accelerate design workflows, improve documentation, automate repetitive work, or strengthen design operations.
- 7+ years of experience in product design, interaction design, information architecture, or design systems.
- A portfolio that highlights design systems you have created, maintained, or significantly contributed to, with clear examples of impact at scale.
- Proven experience designing and launching mobile product experiences.
- Deep understanding of how to create usable, accessible, modular designs that can scale across teams and serve millions of users.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, inclusive design practices, contrast, assistive technology patterns, and scalable component behavior.
- Highly organized working style, with a track record of clear, high-quality documentation.
- Experience contributing to detailed product and design decisions while connecting day-to-day work to broader system strategy.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience partnering across design, engineering, product, and brand in a fast-moving environment.
- Track record of creating and managing impactful design systems, contribution models, and design processes.
