As the Specialty Casualty Claims Supervisor, you will provide strategic guidance on complex casualty claims, mentor and develop adjusters, and ensure claims are handled with excellence, consistency, and a strong customer focus. You'll collaborate with internal partners, agents, and insureds to deliver exceptional service while driving sound claim decisions, controlling costs, and supporting EMC's claims philosophy. This role is ideal for an experienced specialty casualty claims leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, developing talent, and influencing both operational results and the customer experience.
Essential Functions:
Lead and oversee a team of Specialty Casualty Claims professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and technical expertise.
Review specialty casualty claims to ensure proper investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, and resolution strategies.
Assign claims based on complexity and adjuster expertise to optimize claim outcomes.
Provide direction on complex coverage, liability, compensability, claim valuation, and litigation matters.
Handle highly complex specialty casualty claims as needed.
Review and approve reservation of rights and denial letters.
Assist with counsel selection and monitor litigated claims.
Ensure claim files comply with company best practices, regulatory requirements, and reserving guidelines.
Authorize reserves and claim payments within authority levels while controlling claim and expense costs.
Identify claims requiring escalation to Claims Committee, coverage counsel, subrogation, or specialty roundtables.
Monitor team workload, productivity, performance metrics, and file documentation quality.
Conduct hiring, performance management, coaching, development planning, and succession planning activities.
Foster an inclusive, innovative team culture that supports employee growth and continuous improvement.
Build strong relationships with agents, insureds, and internal business partners to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Collaborate with Underwriting, Marketing, Claims Leadership, and agency partners to identify trends, strengthen EMC's claims brand, and support business growth.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Eight years of experience in casualty claims adjusting or related experience, including at least six years of experience with specialty casualty claims handling
Experience with Public Officials Liability, Employment Practices Liability (EPLI), and Law Enforcement Liability claims strongly preferred
Attainment of all applicable state licenses as required
Prior leadership experience preferred
Insurance designations, such as INS, AIC, and CPCU preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent understanding and application of casualty claims techniques and a current knowledge of knowledge of various jurisdictions, good faith claims handling requirements and legal environments.
Advanced knowledge of insurance terms and coverages in commercial lines
Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate staff
Excellent knowledge of computers and claims systems
Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
Excellent ability to gather and analyze a variety of data points to appropriately triage claims handling
Advanced investigative and problem-solving abilities
Occasional travel including overnight, valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if driving
The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:
$100,085 - $138,285 or $110,624 - $152,122A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
