Position Summary
Health100 is America's trusted front door to health and care. The Health100 platform integrates any participating health plan, PBM, pharmacy (retail and specialty), provider, digital health point solution provider, and employer, and addresses the top health care challenges for the consumer.
The Senior Manager - Software Engineering will lead teams building a best-in-class consumer health experience on Health100 - spanning cross-platform apps, open APIs, and a multi-agent AI system that helps consumers navigate benefits, pharmacy, and care decisions. This role is for someone who's as comfortable architecting a distributed backend as they are designing agent orchestration patterns and evaluating the latest LLM tooling.
You'll drive the strategy, build, and delivery of platform capabilities that combine full-stack engineering with applied generative AI - leading cross-functional teams, shaping the technical roadmap, and partnering with senior leaders across the org.
This role sits within an engineering organization delivering technology solutions across modern backend services (Java/distributed systems), Native web and apps, cross-platform app development (Flutter), and an AI agent platform built on emerging standards like Model Context Protocol (MCP) and multi-agent orchestration. Strong grounding in Agile Scrum, distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and hands-on experience integrating generative AI into production products is essential.
Responsibilities:
Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of scalable distributed systems, including backend microservices, cross-platform web/mobile applications, and AI-powered multi-agent platforms.
Drive technical strategy for AI and agentic architectures, including agent orchestration models, LLM infrastructure, RAG pipelines, model selection, workflow management, personalization, and intelligent decisioning capabilities.
Own the end-to-end delivery of complex platform and AI initiatives, from discovery and solution design through implementation, production operations, and continuous optimization.
Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams across software engineering, mobile/web development, and AI/ML disciplines, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and AI-assisted development.
Establish engineering and AI performance standards through KPIs and OKRs, ensuring reliability, scalability, accuracy, cost efficiency, security, and responsible AI governance.
Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and AI-specific risks, including model performance, data privacy, prompt security, system resilience, and compliance requirements.
Partner closely with product, design, platform, security, and external stakeholders to deliver customer-centric solutions, communicate technical strategy effectively, and incorporate emerging technologies, standards, and industry best practices into the roadmap.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing high-performing engineering teams in Agile, cloud-native environments.
Strong hands-on technical foundation in Java and microservices architecture, plus working fluency in modern cross-platform app development (e.g., Flutter, React Native, or similar).
5+ years of cloud development experience (GCP preferred) — sufficient to guide architecture decisions including networking, multi-VPC/project topology, and service-to-service communication patterns.
Hands-on experience building or integrating generative AI into production software — this should go beyond calling an API: experience with agent architectures, tool-use/function calling, MCP or similar protocols, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent orchestration is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to lead teams through the full software delivery lifecycle — from discovery and design through deployment and production operations — at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the Healthcare, Retail, or Pharmacy domain.
Practical experience designing multi-agent systems — supervisor/sub-agent patterns, inter-agent routing, and standards like MCP for connecting agents to tools and data sources.
Experience evaluating and deploying on-device or edge LLMs (e.g., Apple Foundation Models, Gemma) alongside cloud-hosted models, with an eye toward cost and latency tradeoffs (e.g., open-source models like Qwen, Mistral, Llama vs. hosted models like Gemini Flash).
Strong development experience in Java, microservices, and modern web/app stacks, with full-cycle ownership from strategy to execution.
Ability to diagram complex software and AI architectures and communicate ideas to non-technical stakeholders both visually and verbally.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience (Highschool diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience).
