Lucky Robots is building the world’s first "Game Engine for Robotics" - a real-time 3D simulation and training platform where AI learns to move, manipulate, and understand the physical world.


Our goal is to make large-scale robot training and testing environments accessible and fast. We move quickly, experiment often, and value people who enjoy solving complex problems in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment where ideas become reality fast.


We’re looking for someone to build robotics simulation scenes in Lucky Engine, our game-engine-style robotics simulation platform. These scenes generate training data for robotics AI (you don’t need any AI experience).


Lucky Engine (publicly available here) is our own robotics simulation platform which we develop in-house. You will work with the team developing this technology, and contribute to product UI/UX design to make the tools you use even more powerful.


Lucky Engine is in many ways similar to modern game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, and Godot. Constructing scenes, importing assets, and adding behavior is similar to what you would find in a modern game engine. Like Unity, Lucky Engine uses C# for scripting, and entities (aka game objects) are composed from various components. This will be very familiar to anyone with game engine experience.


The difference is the output. Instead of producing an executable game program, we record data (video from cameras, robot joint data, other sensor data, etc.) that is then used for robotics AI training. The result of this training can then also be verified in Lucky Engine, so you can see the result of the scene you have built - a trained robot performing autonomous tasks!

Responsibilities

  • Use Lucky Engine to create 3D simulation environments where robots perform various tasks
  • Bring creativity and imagination to create beautiful 3D scenes from various assets, including your own. Work with 3D artists where necessary to produce assets for these scenes
  • Implement behavior in scenes using C# scripting
  • Randomize scenarios to create more generalized training data. This means, for example, randomizing the positions and types of objects that a robot is tasked with picking up
  • Learn about our robotics asset pipeline and integrate physically-based real-world robot models into simulation scenes, setting them up to perform specific tasks for data recording
  • Set up sensor and data recording pipelines in scenes, with various sensors such as LiDAR, so these tasks can be recorded and used to train AI models


  • Typical tasks may include:
  • Robot arm stacking blocks, like Jenga
  • Humanoid robot opening kitchen drawers, picking up cutlery, and placing on dinner table
  • Humanoid robots climbing stairs or ladders
  • Various other navigation and manipulation tasks - really anything you could think of! This is where creativity and imagination come in


Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with modern game engines, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, or proprietary/in-house engines
  • 2+ years of programming experience, in languages such as C#
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Solid understanding of how games are designed and architected
  • Solid understanding of asset pipelines and 3D asset workflows. You must be able to work with various assets (including 3D meshes) and integrate them into scenes
  • Solid understanding of Physically-Based Rendering (PBR) asset pipelines
  • General understanding of 3D graphics software such as Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, etc.
  • Ability to work on different platforms, such as Windows and Linux
  • Proven ability to finish scenes and projects for games (or other similar mediums). You must submit a portfolio or demonstrable game project for review and discussion
  • Understanding of software development life cycle, software engineering methodologies and practices, and software quality assurance concepts

  • Build something in Lucky Engine and send it to us. You can download the public release here. Candidates who submit a project built in Lucky Engine are far more likely to get hired
  • 3D art experience, such as 3D modeling/texturing is a huge bonus (show this in your portfolio!)
  • Agentic AI experience (Claude, Codex, etc.) to accelerate/improve workflows
  • Experience developing simulation or robotics software
  • Contributions to open-source engine or graphics projects
  • Passion for AI, physics, or the intersection of robotics and interactive 3D environments
