Job Description

Job Summary

Western Digital's Manufacturing Engineering team is looking for an enthusiastic intern to assist in developing an automated Off-hold Tracking solution. The intern will support efforts to reduce manual data compilation in the Factory Quality Assurance Process (FQAP). This is a learning-focused role ideal for students eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world manufacturing setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in building a simple automated system to track Off-hold status and reduce manual compilation
• Learn and apply basic data extraction and cleaning techniques on FQAP-related data
• Help create simple reports or dashboards to display Off-hold tracking results
• Work with team members to understand existing manual workflows
• Support data validation by comparing automated outputs with current manual records
• Prepare basic documentation on the work completed
• Participate in team meetings and share progress updates

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Technology (penultimate or final year)
• Basic knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python or R)
• Willingness to learn new tools and technologies
• Able to commit to the internship duration (3–6 months)
• Good attitude, curiosity, and willingness to ask questions

PREFERRED:

• Exposure to data analysis concepts through coursework or personal projects
• Basic familiarity with Excel (formulas, pivot tables)
• Some awareness of databases or SQL (even from coursework)
• Interest in automation or process improvement

SKILLS:

• Basic programming (Python, R, or VBA)
• Fundamental data handling (sorting, filtering, basic analysis)
• Microsoft Excel (intermediate level)
• Willingness to learn visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
• Good communication and teamwork
• Eager to learn and take initiative
