Packaging Engineer

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of automotive parts packaging. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between component manufacturing and final distribution. The engineer will develop the strategy for external contract packing operations in S. Africa, optimize supplier packaging to protect part integrity, and ensure that all packaging is engineered for maximum storage density within the PDC and compliance for international export markets.

  Optimization of South African Supplier Packaging, including:
•    Defining and adherence to standardized packaging, including materials & labeling
•    Ensure Packaging meets export market requirements
•    Protection and Density optimized to reduce damage and comply with domestic and export market requirements
•    Packaging Specification Review, Maintained and Approval in Global Service Part Packaging System (GSPPS)
•    Supplier Engagement
•    Warehouse Storage and Local & Export Transportation
•    Packaging Regulatory & Safety compliance
•    Resolve Packaging concerns relating to the South African PDC via the Gemba App
•    Identify & implement Packaging Cost, and Quality Improvement initiatives
•    Co-ordinate Contract Packager SOW & Approval, ensuring they adhere to quality, cost, and safety standards.
•    Co-ordinate Management Review & Corrective Actions on Packaging Issues
•    Engage with overseas suppliers and FCSD Affiliates to address packaging issues
•    Support regional packaging initiatives across IMG markets.
 

Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related Engineering field
Minimum 5 years’ work experience, preferably Packaging, Warehouse or Logistics Operations, Supply Chain Management
  Knowledge of automotive packaging standards and logistics processes Experience working with suppliers and      cross-functional teams.
  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
 Familiarity with the South African logistics landscape and South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) related to packaging is highly advantageous.
