Over the past decade, The Daily Mile Foundation (TDMF) has grown into one of the most successful school-based physical activity initiatives for children globally, helping millions of young people experience the transformational benefits of moving more every day. We are entering an exciting new chapter following the recent decision for TDMF to become part of the London Marathon Foundation – one that brings together two charities with a shared commitment to improving children’s health and wellbeing across the UK and beyond.

As part of the new structure, TDMF will operate as an independent charity within the London Marathon Foundation, with its own dedicated Board of Trustees providing strategic leadership, oversight and support. Working closely with the London Marathon Foundation’s Board, TDMF Trustees will help shape the next phase of the charity’s growth, ensuring The Daily Mile continues to thrive in schools and communities, reaches even more children, and contributes to the wider group strategy and shared mission.

TDMF’s work is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: daily physical activity can change children’s lives. The programme is now delivered in thousands of schools, supported by teachers, local authorities, health partners and national bodies. As we expand our reach and impact, Trustees will play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of The Daily Mile, strengthening partnerships, building capacity, and ensuring our work continues to benefit the children and communities who need it most.

With the London Marathon Foundation’s long-standing experience in grant making and community impact and TDMF’s proven model for inspiring activity in schools – this new structure creates a unique opportunity to accelerate change. Trustees will help guide how TDMF evolves within the London Marathon Foundation and aligns with its mission, while championing the distinct identity, values and ambitions of The Daily Mile.

The Role
We are looking for three new Trustees with experience in areas such as:
  • Charitable and Educational - systems knowledge, government structures, broader education landscape;
  • Children’s & Young Peoples health expertise; physical and mental health advocacy, or child psychology;
  • Charity fundraising and capacity building.

TDMF is interested in candidates who bring relevant lived or professional experience of the issues of disadvantage; a broad understanding of the charitable sector and its key issues; experience of working with and/or on Boards. Trustees should be able to commit around 8 days per year, comprised of half day board meetings, ideally attend in person at our offices near London Bridge, preparation for board meetings, and optional attendance at events that are delivered by TDMF and London Marathon Events, including the TCS Mini London Marathon.

If you are interested in making a difference to inspire activity and can contribute strategically on a wide range of issues and demonstrate empathy with the aims and objectives of TDMF and London Marathon Foundation, please see further information via our websites:
