You would be responsible to perform phlebotomy (venipunctures) when needed, assist technical staff in preparing equipment and analyzing specimens for patient testing. Maintain proper inventory of reagents and control materials. Perform clerical functions associated with accessioning, result reporting, referred testing and customer service.
What you will do:
Identifies patient, communicates process to patient and collects specimens from patients for subsequent lab analysis in accordance with approved techniques and observes Universal Precautions. Log samples into the lab LIS.
Ensures specimen integrity while performing specimen accessioning and processing using established handling, labeling and processing procedures. Where applicable, maintains daily operation of the front end of the instrumentation.
Prepares specimens for dispatch to reference laboratory and monitors send-out pending test list/ specimen manifest.
Performs select laboratory testing under the supervision of a Medical Technologist
Prepares control material, performs preventative maintenance, completes maintenance log and performs instrument quality control, oversees refrigerator and freezer temperature recordings, etc.
Enters Blood Bank inventory into the computer system and performs daily inventory checks.
Maintains reagent inventory, labels and stores reagents appropriately, dated when received, opened and when expires and stores appropriately.
Files specimens for easy retrieval and discards specimen at proper intervals
Answers phones and ensures customer satisfaction. Adds on test requests following established laboratory protocol for Add-on requests
Restocks supplies in work area as needed.
Performs other duties assigned.
Work Hours/Shift:
• 40 hours per week, M-F with every other Saturday rotation.
Requirements:
- High school diploma
1 year related medical work experience, preferably in Lab
Phlebotomy Certification preferred
