Manager - Compliance
The Fair Lending Quantitative Manager role is part of a centralized team responsible for administering a comprehensive Fair Lending regulatory compliance program for American Express. The Fair Lending Program Office (FLPO) is responsible for performing quantitative analysis, business process reviews, and other activities in to ensure American Express’ impartiality in lending in accordance with fair lending laws and regulations. The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring that compliance risks are adequately identified, assessed, monitored, and controlled, and will be expected to build collaborative relationships within Compliance as well as with affiliate partners such as Credit and Fraud Risk, Marketing, and Product teams.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Conducting fair lending statistical testing in Python (including t-tests, linear and logistic regression models) to analyze fair lending risk within the end-to-end credit lifecycle (marketing/solicitation, underwriting, line management, servicing, loss mitigation, and collections)
- Collaborating with business partners to understand complex, technical systems, business processes, data structures, and AI/ML modeling methodologies to facilitate effective fair lending analysis
- Work with affiliate partners to obtain data, including appropriate data scoping and executing quality control measures
- Summarize in written form the results of statistical analysis
- Present results of statistical analysis to key partners and leaders in Compliance, the Bank, and Affiliate Management
- Review new or revised business initiatives to provide fair lending guidance (such as credit risk rules, marketing rules, and model adjustments)
- Support the ongoing development and activities of the Fair Lending team and perform other duties as assigned, including ad hoc support of regulatory exams and internal audits.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in statistics, mathematics, economics (or related field)
- Strong experience with Python environment and libraries including experience in manipulating large datasets and samples
- Technical experience with analytic coding techniques, visualization tools, and creating reporting dashboards
- Aptitude for working with data, interpreting results, business intelligence, and analytic best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in statistics, mathematics, economics (or related field)
- Fair lending analytical experience is preferred, but not required
- Working knowledge of statistical/data mining analysis tools, relationship databases and programming languages within the Big data environment
- Visualization tools like Tableau and Power BI; excellent MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
- Ability to break-down a complex problem into components, solve them using data analysis, process knowledge and risk/control knowledge, and communicate data analysis results with transparency and integrity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to lead and manage multiple projects
