Defense Practice Leader - Risk Consulting Europe (m/f/d)

Our Risk Consulting team is seeking an exceptional Growth Leader to build and scale our European Defense Industry practice. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity for an experienced, commercially minded professional who can help shape and expand our presence across the European defense market.


In this role, you will lead the development of our Defense Industry proposition, develop and strengthen senior client relationships, and collaborate with colleagues across Marsh in Europe to deliver innovative risk consulting solutions to clients operating in this strategically important sector. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence market strategy, accelerate growth, and play a defining role in building a leading defense-focused practice across Europe.
We are looking for someone with deep sector insight, a strong track record in leadership and business development, and the ability to align diverse stakeholders behind a clear vision for growth and client impact.

About the position:

  • Translate market and risk management trends into actionable insights for clients and their operating environment

  • Develop and execute strategies to expand trusted client relationships and grow the book of business

  • Apply deep industry knowledge to develop high-impact presentations, thought leadership material and other communications for internal and client meetings

  • Develop proposals and lead pricing for complex projects that deepen existing client relationships and win new business

  • Provide expert advice to clients on project approaches, methodologies, and tools that strengthen risk programs and strategic initiatives

  • Lead projects while increasingly taking ownership of more complex and distinctive engagements

Your qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in defense, national security, government advisory, or risk consulting

  • Deep understanding of the European defense landscape, including NATO, defense ministries, armed forces, and the broader political and regulatory environment

  • Strong expertise in key defense-related risk areas, including geopolitical risk, cyber, resilience, and supply chain disruption

  • Demonstrated success in consulting and business development, including leading proposals and managing senior client relationships

  • Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders on complex strategic and operational matters

  • Outstanding executive communication and presentation skills, with credibility at C-suite and government level

  • Leadership experience spanning teams, clients, revenue, or practice growth

  • Ability to bring together diverse, cross-functional teams across Europe to deliver shared objectives

  • High integrity and sound judgment, with a strong understanding of security, compliance, and the handling of sensitive information

  • Languages: German and English at native or fluent level; additional European languages are an advantage.

*The role will be based in Germany, with approximately 50% of time dedicated to responsibilities across Europe.
