Waste Engineer or Scientist

Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Waste Engineer or Scientist with experience in waste management to join our team in Vancouver, Edmonton, or Calgary.
You will become part of GHD’s National Waste Management Business Group working alongside a diverse team of professionals specializing in landfills, transfer stations, organics, planning, regulatory compliance, and zero waste initiatives. Through our strong mentorship culture, you will have the opportunity to build your technical, project delivery, and client management skills while contributing to projects across Canada.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Contribute to the design of landfills, transfer stations, composting facilities, landfill gas systems, and environmental management systems
- Contribute to the permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental monitoring and technical reporting for our client’s waste management facilities
- Coordinate preparation of and/or prepare technical documents, including draft work plans, environmental and design reports, design packages, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and specifications for internal senior peer review
- Conduct construction contract administration, quality assurance construction inspections, and chair construction progress meetings
- Conduct environmental field work including groundwater, surface water, and leachate sampling, landfill gas monitoring, and landfill inspections
- Responsible for project management, including cost and budget control, scheduling, client communication and liaising, and preparation and implementation of scopes of work and contract administration
- Ensure GHD Project Management, Health and Safety, and Quality Management Systems are adhered to during the project life cycle
- Coordinate technical resources and personnel including drafters, 3D designers, GIS and database technicians, chemists, geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and planners to deliver our multi-disciplinary waste management projects
- Develop business with existing as well as new clients, including assisting with proposal pursuits and building relationships with our federal, municipal and private client base.
- Participate in liaison with regulators
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or environmental science (other fields will be considered with relevant experience)
- 5+ years of environmental consulting experience
- 3+ years of waste management experience
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and technical writing abilities
- Knowledge of waste management regulatory regime including, but not limited to, the Environmental Management Act, BC Landfill Criteria, The Standards for Landfills in Alberta, Hazardous Waste Regulations, Contaminated Sites Regulation.
- Valid class 5 drivers' license with driving record in good standing
- Willingness and ability for overnight travel and to conduct field work within and outside of regular business hours, as required
- A motivated, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
- Detail oriented and organized
What you bring to the team:

The salary range for this position is $77,550 to $129,250. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
