The Los Angeles, CA office of Lewis Brisbois is seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice / Long-Term Care Defense Paralegal to support a sophisticated, high-volume defense practice. This role partners directly with attorneys handling complex medical negligence, nursing home, and assisted living litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial. The ideal candidate brings deep substantive knowledge of medical records analysis, regulatory frameworks (state licensing/survey standards, CMS regulations), and the procedural demands of defending healthcare providers and facilities.

Responsibilities
Job Specifications/Requirements:
- Paralegal certificate or degree preferred; equivalent professional experience considered
- Minimum 3–5 years of paralegal experience in medical malpractice and/or long-term care defense litigation (insurance defense strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with nursing home/assisted living regulatory frameworks (state survey process, CMS/OSHA standards) a strong plus
- Proficiency with litigation support and e-discovery tools (e.g., Relativity, iManage, Trial Director, or similar)

- Manage full litigation lifecycle support for medical malpractice and long-term care defense matters, including case intake, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation
- Analyze, organize, and summarize voluminous medical records, chronologies charts, and facility documentation (MARs, care plans, incident reports, survey/citation history)
- Coordinate with expert witnesses, including record production, CV/report tracking, and deposition logistics
- Draft and manage discovery responses, subpoenas, and medical record requests/authorizations
- This position has an annual billable requirement of 1,600 hours
