One of Jump’s growing quantitative trading teams is looking to add a Technical Operations Systems Engineer. The individual in this role will collaborate extensively with researchers and technologists to evolve, improve, and maintain the trading team’s production infrastructure, helping to ensure that trading proceeds smoothly across global markets.

What you’ll do

  • Soon after starting, provide primary US coverage for the team
  • Ensure strategies are connected to all markets
  • Ensure data is available and in the right volume and format
  • Ensure optimizer is running as scheduled
  • Manage the existing monitoring system
    • Act as primary escalation point for error messages or jobs not running
    • Chase problems identified by the monitoring system to their source, identify bugs, write fixes
    • Understand all processes overseen by the monitoring system and able to take a big picture view of the business' operations
  • Ability to participate in (and ideally lead) building any next generation monitoring system
  • Establish and maintain a very high bar for uptime and robustness
  • Other duties as assigned or needed

Skills you’ll need

  • Work experience in Python, Linux, Bash
  • Scripting in a "get the system up and running" context
  • Ability to write patches, but an ideal candidate can write the patch to the encoder
  • Must be able to follow the error messages to the source, identify the problem, and begin the fix, rather than forwarding errors to others
  • Driven self-starter
  • Genuinely collaborative
  • Excellent verbal communicator and an outgoing mindset -- you’ll have a broad constituency at Jump to interact with (QRs, PREs, Core Dev Engineers, Biz Dev, Middle Office, to name a few)
  • Excellent written communication around technical problems and fixes
  • An obsessive attention to details and correctness
  • Aware of and suited to an environment within which problems that occur can be quite nuanced, but ultimately what needs to be fixed is obvious

  • Focused on precision, rather than a “move fast and break things” attitude
  • Prior experience in trading preferred
  • Reliable and predictable availability
