Our Barrie and New Liskeard offices are home to a collaborative team of 30+ professionals, including engineers, project managers, technologists, technicians, CAD specialists, surveyors, and support staff, delivering technical excellence with strong local expertise.
EXP is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) to lead the design, delivery, and oversight of municipal infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with strong technical leadership, project management, and client-facing skills, and a solid background in roads, servicing, drainage, and water resources.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will:
- Lead civil engineering design and reviews for municipal infrastructure projects, including:
- Roads and transportation corridors
- Grading and earthworks
- Stormwater management and drainage
- Water, wastewater, and utilities
- Foundations and site servicing
- Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal codes, standards, and regulations
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering deliverables, including:
- Calculations and design briefs
- Drawings and specifications
- Technical reports
- Tender and contract packages
- Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables, providing progress reporting and risk management
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and liaise with:
- Clients and project stakeholders
- Municipalities and regulatory agencies
- Utilities, landowners, and approval authorities
- Perform QA/QC reviews and provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists
- Review contractor proposals, shop drawings, and technical submissions for compliance
- Support construction and contract administration, including:
- RFIs and submittals
- Site inspections and field reviews
- Commissioning support
- As-built drawing review
- Conduct site investigations and geotechnical assessments and evaluate alternative technical solutions
- Ensure seamless integration across disciplines (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Environmental)
- Maintain strong, proactive client communication throughout all project phases
What your experience looks like
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise and leadership experience in civil engineering, including:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure
- Demonstrated experience in municipal infrastructure engineering, including:
- Roads and transportation infrastructure
- Water and wastewater systems
- Stormwater management and drainage
- Bridges or structures (asset)
- Extensive knowledge of engineering regulations, codes, and standards, including:
- Municipal and provincial standards
- TAC, AASHTO, CSA
- Canadian Building Code
- Environmental and permitting requirements
- Proficiency with civil design and analysis software, such as:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- MicroStation
- Bentley InRoads / OpenRoads
- BIM and GIS tools
- Strong expertise in municipal servicing, road design, grading, drainage, and water resource management
- Experience delivering preliminary and detailed design projects
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with external stakeholders and regulators
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills, including facilitation of meetings and workshops
- Strong project management experience, including scope, budget, schedule, and risk control
- Field experience with site inspections, compliance reviews, and construction support
- Knowledge of municipal asset management principles (considered an asset)
The salary range for this role is between $100K - $150K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
