Field Service Engineer II - Gas Detection
The Field Service Engineer II – Gas Detection will be working within the Industrial Automation business unit, specifically the Service Team, providing advanced customer support, technical expertise, and field service execution for gas detection systems. This individual serves as a trusted technical resource and the face of Honeywell, partnering with customers and internal organizations to resolve complex technical issues, support system commissioning, and ensure optimal system performance.
In this role, you will provide advanced field service support, troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues, and deliver technical guidance to customers and field technicians. You will engage directly with customers to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Honeywell gas detection solutions while supporting preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and lifecycle services. This position is located in San Mateo, California (Bay Area).
You will drive the timely identification, investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution of advanced technical issues while maintaining a strong focus on quality, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction. You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Technical Support, Sales, and Product Management to improve service delivery, share technical knowledge, and support the continuous development of the field organization. You will also contribute to technical documentation, best practices, and field training initiatives to strengthen overall team capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Honeywell gas detection systems and related equipment.
- Perform advanced diagnostics on hardware, software, networking, and field devices to resolve complex customer issues.
- Provide direct technical support to internal and external customers while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve technical issues through effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Field Service, Technical Support, and Engineering for advanced issue resolution.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system upgrades, calibrations, and lifecycle service activities.
- Provide timely, detailed, and accurate service reports, documentation, and customer communications.
- Lead or support commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing activities.
- Demonstrate the ability to independently manage complex service assignments and customer escalations.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Field Service Engineers and technicians as needed.
- Interact effectively with customers, contractors, engineering teams, and cross-functional Honeywell organizations.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and Honeywell operating procedures.
- Travel to customer sites as required throughout the assigned territory.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, HVAC, Fire Alarm Systems, or a related technical field; OR 3–5 years of equivalent hands-on field service experience; OR completion of military technical training with 3–5 years of applicable field service experience.
- 3+ years of field service experience supporting industrial automation, gas detection, instrumentation, HVAC controls, fire alarm systems, or related industrial equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting experience with electrical, electronic, hardware, software, and networking systems.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint, for documentation, reporting, service tracking, and communication.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites as required.

- 5+ years of field service, technical support, or industrial service experience supporting gas detection or industrial automation systems.
- Experience with Honeywell gas detection products or comparable industrial gas detection technologies.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation, industrial networking, sensors, transmitters, and process control systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex field issues independently and develop effective technical solutions.
- Experience supporting system commissioning, startups, upgrades, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated customer relationship management skills with the ability to build long-term customer partnerships.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce.com, SharePoint, SAP, and Microsoft Excel for service management and reporting.
- Experience mentoring junior technicians and supporting technical training initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and time management abilities.

The annual base salary range for this position is $73,400 - $91,700 mid. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
