Responsibilities

Position Summary 

The USCENTCOM Cultural Advisor (CULAD) provides expert cultural and strategic communication support to Combatant Command engagements across multiple geographic regions. This role advises senior leaders on cultural dynamics, communication practices, and relationship-building strategies that enhance military-to-military engagement, Key Leader Engagements (KLEs), and broader theater communication objectives. The CULAD ensures messaging, publications, and engagement activities are culturally relevant, effective, and aligned with Department of Defense policies, authorities, and doctrine. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide cultural expertise and advisory support for USCENTCOM and Combatant Command engagement activities supporting transregional communication objectives. 
  • Advise senior leaders on cultural norms, communication styles, protocol considerations, and relationship-building strategies for engagements with foreign military and government partners. 
  • Analyze cultural, social, and regional factors affecting target audiences to inform communication planning and audience engagement strategies. 
  • Support the development and dissemination of military-to-military publications, digital products, and communication materials by ensuring cultural relevance and audience resonance. 
  • Guide content development efforts by advising on culturally appropriate messaging, imagery, narratives, and translation approaches. 
  • Support multilingual communication initiatives by ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and effectiveness across diverse audiences. 
  • Coordinate with USSOCOM Joint Staff J39, Combatant Command stakeholders, and communication teams to align cultural considerations with campaign objectives, themes, and production timelines. 
  • Provide cultural insights to support Theater Security Cooperation Plans (TSCPs), Commander’s Campaign Plans (CCPs), and related engagement activities. 
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of audience engagement data, communication performance metrics, and effectiveness measures to support reporting requirements. 
  • Assist in amplifying regional partner perspectives and strengthening strategic communication efforts across designated areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. 
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience; or PhD and 7 years of relevant experience. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in cross-cultural communication, regional studies, strategic communications, military engagement activities, or related disciplines. 
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Combatant Command, Special Operations, or strategic communication missions. 
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise senior military leaders and engage with multinational stakeholders. 
  • Knowledge of DoD communication policies, strategic messaging principles, and intercultural engagement best practices.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
