Business Unit/Role Specific Information 

Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) comprises key functions that are core to the company’s operations, including Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience, Global Supply Management, Business Resilience & Corporate Functions Governance, Aviation, Internal Fraud, and Global Security. ESS helps keep our company growing and puts our colleagues at the center of everything they do by delivering best-in-class services that power safe, resilient, and efficient operations around the world. 

 

Global Supply Management (GSM) provides strategic consultation and end-to-end procurement services that help American Express manage third-party spend, supplier relationships and risk. Strategic Sourcing & Business Enablement (SS&BE) supports strategic sourcing, contracting, supplier management, procurement operations and other priorities that help the company maximize value from its third-party relationships.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Strategic Sourcing & Business Enablement Intern, you will contribute to projects involving sourcing, contracting, supplier management, analytics, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement. Through this experience, you will build business acumen, strengthen your analytical and communication skills, and learn how GSM partners with teams across American Express. Your specific assignment will be based on business priorities at the time of the internship.

 

This position will be based in New York, NY.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support projects and initiatives aligned with SS&BE and broader GSM priorities.

  • Conduct research and analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and business insights.

  • Prepare reports, presentations, dashboards, and other materials for internal stakeholders.

  • Support sourcing, contracting, supplier management or procurement-related activities, depending on the assigned project.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across GSM and other American Express business units.

  • Document processes, track project progress, and coordinate follow-up actions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, or enhance the colleague and stakeholder experience.

  • Participate in team meetings, learning opportunities and other activities that provide exposure to GSM and American Express.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to organize information, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality work.

  • Curiosity and an interest in procurement, sourcing, contracting, supplier management, operations, or related business disciplines.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in business, finance, supply chain management, operations, economics, data analytics, risk management or related field.

  • Experience using data to develop insights or recommendations.

  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, or involvement in campus and community activities.

  • Interest in working with global teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

 

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
