Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:

General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking an Advanced Systems Engineer 1 to support the D5LE2 program within the SWC Fire Control engineering organization. The successful candidate will apply systems engineering fundamentals across the full system life cycle, contributing to the design, analysis, and verification of mission-critical fire control subsystems supporting the U.S. Navy's strategic deterrent. This role requires proficient technical skills, the ability to work with moderate independence, and a growing ability to drive engineering outcomes within a complex, long-horizon program environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply systems engineering fundamentals to perform requirements analysis, definition, and management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, integration and test (verification) for D5LE2 subsystems
  • Utilize MBSE tools (Cameo/MagicDraw, DOORS) to develop, maintain, and communicate system architectures and models in support of upcoming D5LE2 program milestones
  • Apply critical thinking to identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses with increasing independence
  • Perform interface definition studies of system components and products
  • Research and analyze vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Design complete and complex frameworks, systems, or products within assigned subsystem scope
  • Generate technical engineering products using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools
  • Develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems; support system accreditation/certification evaluation
  • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
  • Drive the achievement of business objectives within assigned scope
  • Support Modeling and Simulation activities in alignment with D5LE2 program objectives
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding and application of systems engineering principles, concepts, and theories in a safety-critical defense program environment
  • Proficient use of tools for managing requirements (DOORS) and modeling systems (Cameo/MagicDraw or equivalent)
  • Developing proficiency with MBSE methodologies and digital engineering concepts; familiarity with architectural patterns (SysML)
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design
  • Familiar in hardware development, such as electrical and networking systems, equipment racks, servers, cabling, and user interfaces.
  • Proficient ability to effectively use Microsoft Office tools for various tasks
  • Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle complex assignments efficiently
  • Awareness of business objectives and the role of engineering in achieving these goals
  • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions effectively
  • Understanding of safety and surety principles in the context of strategic weapons systems

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $112,924.00 - USD $125,275.00 /Yr.
