Workday Finance Systems Analyst

About the role: 

The Workday Finance Systems Analyst is responsible for the ownership, configuration, and continuous improvement of Blackbaud’s financial systems, primarily Workday. This role partners closely with Finance, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Procurement, and Legal teams to enable efficient, compliant, and scalable financial operations across the full finance lifecycle; from Record to Report and Order to Cash through Procure to Pay, Treasury, FP&A, Travel & Expense, and Tax. 

Through strong cross-functional partnerships, you will uncover what’s possible in the system, drive automation across financial processes, and ensure alignment with the organization’s compliance, audit, and operational standards. 

 

What you’ll be doing: (Job duties and responsibilities)  

System Configuration & Delivery 

  • Configure and maintain Workday functionality across all core finance domains 

  • Lead system design for financial workflows including journal entry, period close, customer billing and collections, supplier lifecycle, expense and payment processing, bank reconciliation, and financial reporting 

  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, and Tax stakeholders to translate business requirements into prioritized epics, features, and user stories, align on deployment expectations and strategic direction, and ensure tax configuration, compliance rules, and audit controls are embedded in system design 

  • Plan and execute Workday release management, including feature assessment, testing strategies, and deployment coordination 

  • Drive continuous improvement by evaluating new Workday capabilities and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, automation, and user experience 

  • Actively identify and champion AI-enabled automation opportunities within financial workflows, applying a thoughtful and governance-conscious approach to expanding the use of AI tools safely and responsibly within Workday and adjacent systems 

Functional Domain Coverage 

  • Support Record to Report through General Ledger configuration, journal entry processing, period-end close, account reconciliation, and financial reporting and consolidation 

  • Support Order to Cash through customer accounts, invoicing, billing schedules, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and dunning and collections 

  • Support Treasury & Cash Management through bank account setup, bank reconciliation rules, payment processing, cash positioning, and banking integrations 

  • Support Financial Planning & Analysis through budgeting and forecasting configuration, financial dashboards, and management reporting and analytics 

  • Support Procure to Pay through requisitions, purchase orders, supplier management, accounts payable, and procurement workflows 

  • Support Travel & Expense through expense report configuration, policy rules, approval workflows, and reimbursement processing 

  • Support Tax & Legal through sales and use tax configuration, tax reporting support, compliance controls, and coordination with Legal on system requirements 

Operational Support & Process Improvement 

  • Provide system support via ServiceNow, including troubleshooting and resolution of complex functional issues across finance modules 

  • Ensure minimal business disruption through timely issue resolution and proactive communication with stakeholders 

  • Safeguard data accuracy and integrity by modernizing data maintenance and applying automated, AI-assisted monitoring to surface issues before they impact the business 

  • Develop and maintain process documentation, job aids, and work instructions for supported financial processes 

  • Strengthen audit and compliance readiness by designing repeatable, well-documented processes and using automation to make controls more reliable and less manual 

  • Define deployment expectations and support consistent adoption of system changes across Finance teams 

  • Drive transformational change across finance operations by evolving beyond legacy, manual ways of working and reimagining processes for greater efficiency, scalability, and user experience 

  • Embed AI and intelligent automation into support and process improvement, using these tools to accelerate issue resolution, proactively surface recurring problems, and continuously reduce manual effort 

 

What we'll want you to have:  

 

Required Experience and Traits 

  • 5+ years of experience in a Workday Financial systems configuration or technical support role 

  • Demonstrated knowledge across multiple financial process areas (e.g., R2R, O2C, P2P, T&E) 

  • Embraces change and helps drive it, adapting to new ways of working and bringing stakeholders along toward lasting adoption, not just technical delivery 

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail 

  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable system designs 

  • Proven collaboration skills across Finance, Accounting, IT, and Compliance stakeholders 

  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism 

  • Continual learner who stays current with Workday releases and emerging finance technology trends and actively explores new tools and approaches 

  • Able to work flexible hours as required by business priorities  

  • Able to deliver work meeting all requirements for quality, security, and operability. 

Preferred Experience and Traits 

  • Workday certifications in one or more Finance modules (Financial Accounting, Customer Accounts, Supplier Accounts, Banking, Expense) 

  • Experience with Workday reporting and analytics (Advanced, Composite, Matrix, Trending reports and calculated fields) 

  • Familiarity with Workday integrations (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors) supporting financial data flows 

  • Curious self-starter who enjoys experimenting to find better solutions, learns continuously, and shares learnings and best practices across the team 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences
