The MP&L Engineer is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and developing a team of associates within the material planning and logistics area, ensuring compliance with Ford's quality, safety, and efficiency standards. This role combines the technical knowledge of an Industrial Engineer with leadership skills, guiding the team in process execution, floor-level problem solving, and continuous improvement implementation (Lean/FPS), acting as a liaison between management and shop-floor personnel.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the assigned team on a daily basis within the MP&L area 
  • Ensure compliance with Standardized Work processes and MP&L procedures
  • Coordinate task assignments and shift scheduling for direct reports
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for logistics
  • Act as the first point of contact to resolve operational issues and escalate when necessary
  • Facilitate communication between shifts and with other areas (Production, Quality)
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and waste elimination (Lean Manufacturing/FPS)
  • Train, coach, and evaluate the performance of the team

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: direct supervision, coaching, and development of MP&L operational staff
  • Process Management: ensure the correct execution of logistics and material planning processes
  • Problem Solving: identify root causes of failures or delays in material flow and coordinate immediate solutions
  • Continuous Improvement: lead process optimization projects using Lean/FPS methodologies
  • Standards Compliance: ensure safety, quality, and adherence to internal policies
  • Reporting & Analysis: generate and analyze area performance reports to support decision-making

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 2-4 years of prior experience in manufacturing, logistics, or MP&L areas
  • Prior experience leading or supervising a team (desirable)
  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing systems (FPS, Lean Manufacturing)
  • Availability to work rotating shifts

 

Must Have Skills

  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of MP&L processes (material planning, internal logistics, inventory management)
  • ERP systems proficiency (SAP or similar)
  • Problem-solving capability under pressure
  • Effective communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel)
  • Knowledge of Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, Andon, etc.)

 

Highly Desirable Skills

  • Lean Six Sigma certification or training
  • Prior experience in the automotive industry
  • English language proficiency (intermediate-advanced level)
  • Knowledge of WERS (Worldwide Engineering Release System) or other Ford systems
  • Experience managing conflict and unionized personnel

 

Education Preference

Industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Administration, or related fields.
