Job Description

Specialist – Record to Report (Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting) 

 

Role Purpose 

The Specialist for Record to Report (Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting) is responsible for overseeing fixed asset and lease accounting processes, ensuring accurate asset capitalization, depreciation, lease accounting, and financial reporting in line with accounting standards, SLAs, and control frameworks. This role drives process quality, manages high volumes of asset data, and ensures compliance and efficient operations within a shared services environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage and oversee end-to-end fixed asset accounting processes, including asset creation, capitalization, depreciation, transfers, and disposals. 
  • Review and approve journal entries related to asset accounting and lease accounting adjustments in ERP systems. 
  • Ensure accurate execution of lease accounting processes, including recognition, measurement, and reporting in line with IFRS 16 / ASC 842 requirements. 
  • Manage and validate fixed asset registers, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with accounting policies. 
  • Review and monitor fixed asset and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely clearance of reconciling items. 
  • Handle large volumes of asset and lease data, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across systems. 
  • Ensure timely execution of month-end close activities, including depreciation runs, lease accounting entries, and reporting.  
  • Drive adherence to SOPs, accounting policies, and internal guidelines across asset and lease accounting processes.  
  • Support financial statement preparation and reporting accuracy related to assets and lease accounting.  
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve asset-related discrepancies, data issues, and accounting exceptions. 
  • Ensure all deliverables meet team-level SLAs, quality standards, and productivity targets. 
  • Support and manage audit requirements, including asset schedules, lease documentation, and audit trails.  

 

Governance, Controls & Compliance 

  • Ensure strong adherence to SOX controls, accounting standards (IFRS / US GAAP), and internal policies 
  • Review asset capitalization, depreciation, and lease accounting entries for compliance and accuracy. 
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all fixed asset and lease accounting processes.  
  • Ensure proper controls over high-value assets and lease portfolios. 

 

Stakeholder Management 

  • Collaborate with Procurement, P2P, Projects, Treasury, and Audit teams for asset lifecycle and lease accounting activities.  
  • Act as a key contact for asset accounting and lease-related queries and issue resolution. 
  • Participate in governance calls and stakeholder discussions 
  • Provide insights on asset movements, lease obligations, and accounting impacts. 

 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Drive process standardization, automation, and efficiency improvements in fixed asset and lease accounting.  
  • Identify root causes of asset discrepancies, reconciliation breaks, and lease accounting issues. 
  • Support ERP enhancements and lease accounting tool optimizations. 
  • Improve data management and reporting efficiency for large asset portfolios. 

 

Responsibilities: 

In this role, you will be responsible for all the activities related to month end closing & reporting. 

  • Perform day-to-day operational activities including fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, reporting, audit requests, and ad hoc analyses 
  • Review and approve journal entries related to asset capitalization, depreciation, and lease adjustments with accuracy and adherence to timelines.  
  • Preparation and review of fixed asset and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely clearance of reconciling items.  
  • Manage asset lifecycle activities including capitalization, depreciation, transfers, and disposals. 
  • Monitor and resolve reconciling items and discrepancies through stakeholder coordination.  
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls and contribute to process improvements in asset and lease accounting 

 

Minimum qualifications 

  • Relevant years of experience in accounting or related financial processes, with strong exposure to fixed asset accounting.  
  • Bachelor’s (B. Com), Master’s (M. Com), CA, CMA or MBA (Finance) with specialization in Finance or Accounting.  
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, especially advanced Excel (handling large datasets, pivot tables, lookups).  
  • Strong experience in fixed asset accounting, depreciation, reconciliations, and journal entry processing. 
  • Exposure to lease accounting (IFRS 16 / ASC 842) and related reporting. 
  • Experience working on ERP systems such as SAP / Oracle / PeopleSoft / Workday 

 

Preferred additional Skills 

  • Experience or exposure to lease accounting tools such as Nakisa, SAP RE-FX, or similar platforms. 
  • Strong ability to handle large volumes of asset and lease data. 
  • Knowledge of asset lifecycle management and capitalization policies
  • Good understanding of internal controls, audit frameworks, and compliance requirements.  
  • Experience in automation and process improvement initiatives.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
