Job Description:

Department Overview

Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) manages TD Bank's non-trading market risk, liquidity risk and consolidated capital positions. In addition, TBSM operates the Bank's funding, funds transfer pricing, and investment management programs. 

The Liquidity Risk Management team in Treasury is responsible for the measurement and management of sufficient cash, investments and funding ensuring the Bank may operate effectively during both normal and stressed market conditions.  The department develops policies and frameworks, and identifies, measures and forecasts the Bank's liquidity risk drivers and requirements, taking actions to maintain a sound risk profile.  The team works with partners within Treasury and across the Bank, globally, to ensure liquidity risks are managed and understood.

Job Description

The senior analyst is a key member of the Liquidity Risk Management team working to ensure the projects, initiatives and reports affecting liquidity risk measurement and management are delivered successfully. This individual will proactively develop solutions, offering critical thinking and technical acumen to adapt to a fluid and changing work environment.  They will be depended upon to provide strong analytics and detailed reporting capabilities to assist with the management of the Bank's liquidity risk. 

The successful candidate possesses a strong background in financial products and services, and strong foundation of balance sheet construct as they develop into a liquidity subject-matter expert.  They will provide business-lines, including those within Treasury, with guidance and advice, while overseeing the design of technology implementation, related testing plans and execution for changes including new product/service/strategy onboarding.  They will have a strong communication and teamworking ethic as they work closely with multiple stakeholders across TD.

Key accountabilities may include: 

  • Enhancing the suite of liquidity reporting and underlying infrastructure (people, processes, systems) to ensure accurate reporting is provided in efficient ways to senior audiences
  • Analyzing complex liquidity-related positions and synthesizing findings and conclusions into reporting provided to the Board, ALCO and liquidity sub-committees, among others
  • Leading the production, governance and ongoing enhancement of regulatory reporting (H4) and other core liquidity reports, ensuring reporting accuracy, effective controls and the delivery of meaningful insights to Treasury, Risk Management and governance forums
  • Assisting with the evolution of reporting provided by other groups to Treasury, helping with design and content changes to ensure meaningful information is conveyed in simple formats
  • Explaining drivers of liquidity and collateral movements to Treasury, Risk Management and business stakeholders in effort to enhance the understanding of liquidity risk
  • Supporting, and often leading, liquidity initiatives, including framework development, new product liquidity assessments and technology implementations
  • Liaising with other Treasury departments as part of large project undertakings to assist with funding planning and investment portfolio optimization 
  • Apply a control and reconciliation mindset against our liquidity reporting suite, minimizing vulnerabilities and ensuring reporting accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist with Risk Management and Audit reviews, line of business undertakings/initiatives and develop relationships across the institution

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated Experience – In areas such as: Treasury, Risk, liquidity, financial market operations, retail and/or wholesale banking products.
  • Subject matter familiarity – possesses knowledge of regulatory requirements concerning liquidity, collateral management, stress testing and other regulatory and risk initiatives.
  • Analytical and Critical thinking - Advanced analytical skills and comfort in dealing with complex business situations, products and diverse sources of information, and ability to manage/manipulate large data volumes into meaningful analytics.
  • Change Management - Possess a track record of making an impact, managing key deliverables and driving change.
  • Operational Excellence - Strong skills in process development, efficiency and establishing control enhancements.  This includes building and improving operational processes with technology partners.
  • Effective Stakeholder Management – You promote open and transparent dialogue and positive working relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Flexible and Accountable - Ability to perform well in addressing ambiguous and unstructured problems and managing dynamic business requirements.
  • Detail Oriented - attention to detail and accuracy of reporting and presentations.

Competencies and Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to communicate complex financial concepts with efficiency to large and diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both spoken and written.
  • Proactive in identifying potential problems, providing solutions and obtaining consensus across all the stakeholders.
  • Quick learner and active contributor to a positive and inclusive team culture focused on supporting and building the capabilities of the team and TD.
  • Strong team-work ethic.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of extensive experience in finance, accounting, bank treasury, capital markets.
  • Post-secondary degree in Finance, Business, Risk and/or Economics.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite, working knowledge in JIRA/Confluence; programming skills in SQL, though not required, are desirable.
  • Experience in Tableau and Alteryx will be considered as plus.

Work activities include a blend of highly collaborative activities and individual deliverables. Individuals are expected to be onsite 4 days a week. Colleagues may spend more or less days in office as required by the business line.
