NPI Operations Program Manager
Summary:
The NPI Operations Program Manager (OPM) at Reality Labs has a unique and high-impact role, driving consumer electronics from development to mass production. This position is vital for bringing Meta's new devices to life and requires demonstrated experience in engineering acumen to ensure high-quality product outcomes. The OPM bridges core product engineering teams with a broad spectrum of functional organizations — including Manufacturing Engineering, Hardware/Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, Supply Chain, Legal, and Finance — as well as external manufacturing partners and suppliers. The OPM is responsible for driving program execution, ensuring that engineering trade-offs, manufacturing constraints, and system-level dependencies are rigorously understood, communicated, and resolved across cross-functional initiatives that influence product outcomes in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Required Skills:
NPI Operations Program Manager Responsibilities:
- Manage cross-functional execution of NPI and mass production initiatives for consumer electronics devices by integrating engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain plans, communicate risk and status clearly and succinctly to management, calling out key technical issues and presenting options for resolution to Leadership
- Establish and lead on-site bring-up and integration activities at factory sites, coordinating with both internal engineering teams and external manufacturing resources to drive hardware/firmware integration milestones
- Drive supplier and factory readiness activities to execute development builds (EVT, DVT, PVT) leading up to ramp, including development of process qualification plans, yield improvement strategies, and defining capacity and CapEx requirements — clearly identifying engineering deliverables and dependencies
- Assess, analyze, consolidate, and communicate engineering risk and program status clearly and succinctly to management, calling out key technical issues and presenting data-driven options for resolution to the cross-functional executive team through new product reviews and other executive forums
- Lead the tactical execution of go-to-market initiatives by working closely with key cross-functional engineering and operations teams, bring a technically informed point of view, guiding decisions related to manufacturing feasibility, test coverage, and quality readiness
- Liaise across engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure product cost, manufacturability, reliability, product quality, and safety & compliance performance goals are met — with an understanding of underlying engineering trade-offs
- Drive Operations team towards factory readiness with manufacturing partners to support MP (line layout, automation, test infrastructure, capacity, CapEx)
- Work with Product Cost Engineers to track and drive product cost targets through MP, leveraging engineering BOM analysis and manufacturing process optimization
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related STEM discipline)
- 7+ years' experience in an Operations-focused role for a Consumer Electronics device, with direct exposure to engineering development cycles (EVT/DVT/PVT)
- Demonstrated experience in technical problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret engineering data, test results, and manufacturing process metrics, advanced proficiency in Excel
- Working knowledge of product architecture, engineering specifications, DFM/DFA principles, manufacturing processes (SMT, FA, test, packaging), and end-to-end supply chain for consumer electronics products
- Experience working with and technically managing external suppliers, contract manufacturers, and JDM/ODM partners through build milestones
- Proven project management experience, including cross-functional stakeholder management with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams
- Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing multiple competing workstreams to maximize engineering and business impact
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field) or MBA with a technical undergraduate degree, experience in technical operations, management consulting with a technology focus, or similar discipline
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Experience leading development and delivery of multiple high-volume hardware products through full NPI lifecycle
- 12+ years' experience in a technically oriented Operations Program Management role for a Consumer Electronics device
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience managing JDM/ODM partners across different models of engagement, with ability to drive technical alignment on manufacturing processes and quality standards
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize and redesign engineering and operational workflows, driving measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, yield improvements, quality improvements)
