DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

6 North Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a 20-bed unit that provides services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, acute and chronic Heart Failure patients, as well as medical/surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring.

SUMMARY:

Coordinates non-clinical support functions for assigned nursing unit and assists in maintaining an orderly unit operation. Serves as liaison between nursing and ancillary departments for information or issue resolution. Communicates with Nurse Manager on outstanding interdepartmental issues and participates in a plan to resolve. Demonstrates unit/area designated competencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:  Requires high school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: Minimum one year related healthcare or clerical experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Computer proficiency in document and spread sheet preparation, use of e-mail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with a wide range of Health System staff, patients and visitors.
  • Decision-making skills needed in urgent situations.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under stress.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
  • Problem solving ability to resolve daily operational issues.
