JOB PURPOSE

This role exists to provide strategic legal leadership and trusted business partnering across all four Unilever Business Units in Spain, enabling sustainable growth, compliant innovation, and effective risk management. The role supports commercial, marketing, R&D, supply chain, corporate, litigation, and compliance activities by delivering practical legal guidance that protects the business while driving performance. Working closely with global legal experts and business leaders, this position ensures legal excellence, supports informed decision-making, and helps bring responsible business practices to life across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the primary legal advisor for Unilever Spain, providing guidance across commercial, marketing, sales, distribution, supply chain, corporate, litigation, and compliance matters.
  • Partner with business leaders to deliver pragmatic legal advice and risk assessments that support business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Advise Spanish Marketing and R&D teams on product claims, advertising materials, and promotional activities, collaborating closely with Regulatory Affairs and global and regional teams.
  • Collaborate with specialist legal teams in areas including data privacy, competition law, business integrity, and regulatory compliance to manage complex legal matters.
  • Lead the legal review and negotiation of strategic agreements with customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders to protect business interests and mitigate risk.
  • Coordinate and manage incoming and outgoing competitive challenges relating to product claims, advertising campaigns, and marketing activities in alignment with business strategy.
  • Coordinate and oversee litigation matters, working closely with internal legal experts and external counsel to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver legal training and awareness programs on key legal and compliance topics, including competition law and commercial risk management.
  • Contribute as a member of the Spain Leadership Team, providing strategic legal input to support business growth and decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships across the European and global legal community, sharing best practices, driving alignment, and mentoring selected members of the Powerhouse team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience in commercial, corporate, regulatory, or consumer goods law.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience providing legal support to cross-functional business teams within a multinational or complex commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of local Spanish commercial contracts, marketing and advertising law, competition law, litigation management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess legal risk and provide practical, business-focused solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with fluency in Spanish and English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting consumer goods, FMCG, retail, healthcare, beauty, nutrition, or related industries.
  • Previous experience managing external counsel and coordinating cross-border legal matters within a regional or global organization.
  • Strong collaboration and adaptability, with the ability to drive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership mindset with strong influencing skills, sound risk-based judgment, and openness to leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance effectiveness.
