Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain IBM i (AS/400) system security configurations and policies.

  • Manage user profiles, roles, authorities, authorization lists, and object-level security.

  • Implement and maintain IBM i security best practices to protect enterprise systems and data.

  • Configure and monitor system values related to security (QSECURITY, password policies, auditing, etc.).

  • Perform security audits, user access reviews, and compliance assessments.

  • Monitor security logs, QAUDJRN, and investigate security events and unauthorized access attempts.

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation activities.

  • Manage privileged access and ensure least-privilege access controls.

  • Support compliance initiatives for SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, or other regulatory requirements.

  • Perform security hardening, PTF updates, and security-related system maintenance.

  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and audit teams to resolve security issues.

  • Develop and maintain security documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and security investigations.

  • Support Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and ensure security controls are maintained during recovery operations.

  • Provide security guidance, awareness, and technical support to internal teams.

Required Skills

  • Strong experience with IBM i (AS/400) security administration.

  • In-depth knowledge of IBM i user profiles, authorities, authorization lists, and object security.

  • Experience with IBM i security auditing (QAUDJRN) and security monitoring.

  • Knowledge of IBM i system values and security configuration.

  • Experience with user provisioning, de-provisioning, and access governance.

  • Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and access control principles.

  • Experience with security hardening, vulnerability management, and compliance.

  • Knowledge of encryption, digital certificates, SSL/TLS, and secure communications.

  • Experience with PTF management and IBM i security updates.

  • Familiarity with IBM Navigator for i and security administration tools.

  • Experience with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with security tools such as IBM Security Guardium, HelpSystems (Fortra) PowerTech, or other IBM i security solutions.

  • Knowledge of SIEM platforms such as Splunk, QRadar, or Microsoft Sentinel.

  • Experience with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Single Sign-On (SSO), LDAP, and Active Directory integration.

  • Familiarity with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions.

  • IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM i certification.

  • Cybersecurity certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CISM, or GIAC (preferred).

  • Knowledge of AIX, Linux, and Windows security administration.

  • Experience with PowerHA, BRMS, and Disaster Recovery security planning.

  • Proficiency in CL/CLLE scripting, SQL, and security automation.

  • Experience supporting enterprise production environments and regulatory audits.
