Description
The CDL Inter-Facility Driver / Yard Switcher is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods between company-owned storage locations, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities in Burlington, NC. This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and supports production operations by ensuring timely material movement and trailer management while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTransportation and Material MovementSafely operate commercial motor vehicles on public roads between company-owned facilities, warehouses, and storage locations.Transport raw materials, work-in-process inventory, packaging materials, and finished goods between company sites.Move and position trailers at docks, warehouses, and staging areas to support production and shipping schedules.Coordinate deliveries and material transfers with production, warehouse, and logistics personnel.Verify material transfers and ensure loads match transfer documentation.Secure loads properly and ensure compliance with all transportation safety requirements.Maintain accurate records of material movements and transfers.Yard and Trailer ManagementSpot, stage, relocate, and position trailers as needed.Ensure trailers are available at designated docks for loading and unloading.Verify trailer identification and maintain trailer location records.Assist with trailer inventory management and yard organization.Shipping, Receiving, and Inventory SupportLoad and unload materials as required.Receive and verify materials against transfer documents and inventory records.Utilize scanners, inventory systems, and company software to document material movements.Follow FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory procedures.Assist with inventory organization, cycle counts, and warehouse housekeeping.Support warehouse operations during periods of increased activity.Equipment Operation and MaintenanceOperate forklifts, clamp trucks, pallet jacks, yard tractors, and other powered industrial equipment as authorized.Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of company vehicles and trailers.Complete daily equipment inspection checklists.Report equipment malfunctions, vehicle issues, and unsafe conditions immediately.Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.Assist with preventative maintenance activities as directed.Safety and ComplianceMaintain compliance with all DOT regulations, company policies, and transportation requirements.Maintain a valid Class A CDL and DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.Perform required vehicle inspections and complete all required documentation.Follow all site-specific traffic patterns and operating procedures.Wear required PPE and adhere to all safety rules and regulations.Report accidents, injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, and equipment concerns promptly.Participate in safety meetings and training programs.Support compliance with company quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives.Additional DutiesAssist with general logistics, warehouse, and material handling functions as required.Provide support to production operations by ensuring materials are delivered accurately and on time.Perform other duties as assigned by management.
