A brief introduction to the team:
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and operate backend‑heavy full‑stack services for Expedia Group’s Modern Checkout platform, creating brand‑agnostic, product‑agnostic capabilities that serve hotels, flights, activities, and packages at global scale.
- Own problems end to end across the stack, from clarifying requirements and producing low‑level designs, APIs, and data models through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operational support.
- Develop and evolve microservices and platform components in a cloud‑native environment using languages such as Kotlin, Java, or C#/.NET, integrating with AWS‑hosted data stores, caches, and streaming systems.
- Implement resilient, observable, and high‑performance tier‑zero checkout services, contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and operational readiness to meet strict availability and latency goals.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and partner teams to incrementally decompose legacy monoliths into a unified architecture, ensuring services are reusable and fungible across multiple brands and domains.
- Use AI‑assisted development tools and AI‑driven workflows to accelerate coding, testing, and troubleshooting, and safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve engineering efficiency and checkout outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of services or features through the full development lifecycle, including low‑level system design, API design, data modeling, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support in a cloud environment.
- Strong coding, problem‑solving, and analytical skills, with solid understanding of core computer science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, and time/space complexity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building microservices or service‑oriented architectures on AWS (or a similar cloud), integrating with technologies such as Redis or other caches, NoSQL data stores like DynamoDB, and streaming or messaging systems such as Kinesis.
- Track record of delivering and operating high‑availability, high‑throughput, tier‑zero or mission‑critical services with strong observability, reliability, and incident‑response practices.
- Hands‑on experience with modern front‑end technologies such as JavaScript and React, and with service interaction patterns and protocols such as REST or GraphQL in full‑stack systems.
- Familiarity with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including practical use of AI‑assisted coding tools (for example, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) to improve development speed, quality, or test coverage, and experience safely integrating AI‑powered capabilities into production services where appropriate.
