Team Leader, Construction Defect Claims
Overview
AmTrust Financial Services, a fast-growing commercial insurance company, is seeking experienced Construction Defect Claims Leaders across multiple levels, including Manager, Senior Manager, and Director. These leadership roles will provide oversight of Construction Defect claim teams handling varying levels of claim severity and complexity. This position can be located in one of our claims offices, with the possibility of working remotely.
Depending on level and experience, responsibilities may include direct management of claims professionals, technical oversight of complex claim portfolios, strategic leadership initiatives, talent development, operational excellence, and partnership with executive leadership to drive results.
Successful candidates will bring strong expertise in Construction Defect claims, litigation management, coverage analysis, and team leadership, along with a passion for developing talent and delivering exceptional claim outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of Construction Defect claims professionals handling claims of varying complexity and severity.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance on coverage analysis, liability investigations, damage evaluation, litigation management, reserving, negotiation, and claim resolution strategies.
- Ensure appropriate claim assignment and workload management across the team.
- Oversee claim handling quality, consistency, and compliance with company guidelines, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve claim payments, reserve recommendations, and settlement authority within designated authority levels.
- Conduct file reviews and quality audits to ensure technical excellence and operational effectiveness.
- Drive superior customer service for insureds, brokers, counsel, and internal business partners.
- Analyze claim and operational trends, identify opportunities for process improvements, and implement best practices.
- Recruit, hire, develop, coach, and retain top talent.
- Lead performance management, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic business initiatives, organizational planning, and departmental objectives.
- Participate in special projects and enterprise-wide initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership experience in commercial claims, with opportunities available for candidates ranging from Manager to Director level dependent on years in industry.
- Significant experience handling and/or managing Construction Defect claims preferred.
- Strong understanding of coverage analysis, liability, litigation management, damages evaluation, and insurance claim practices.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop claims professionals.
- Demonstrated success managing performance, driving operational results, and influencing outcomes.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with varying levels of autonomy and leadership responsibility.
- Proficiency with claims systems and business technology platforms.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Valid adjuster's license in appropriate jurisdictions or ability to obtain one.
The expected salary range for this role is $125,000-$165,000 annual.
