Job Description

Location: Oklahoma City - 123 Robert S Kerr Avenue

Salary: up to $67,600.00, based on education and experience

Full Time /Part Time: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Primary Hours: 8-5

 

Position Summary

This position will perform duties in support of the statutorily required duties of the Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Service. This position is responsible for conducting active and passive surveillance activities for STIs, including syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The STI Surveillance Epidemiologist will be utilizing multiple software tools (SAS, SQL, MS Excel, Power BI, etc.) to perform data linkages, quality assurance, and analysis. This position will also support the HIV Prevention and Surveillance efforts by assisting with data analysis required for syndemic response in Oklahoma.

 

Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions

• Review STI laboratory tests for possible new infections or missing laboratory results/information.
• Review, classify and close completed STI cases.
• Assist with the data quality assurance activities across all STIs including, but not limited to, follow up on priority cases where no treatment is documented.
• Assist with presentations regarding the basic epidemiological information for STIs.
• Analyze basic surveillance data using SAS, SQL, Microsoft Excel or other software programs.
• Assist in processing data requests; providing clear and concise results.
• Assist with program evaluation by providing data collection and analysis.
• Receives, reviews and compiles complex statistical data; compiles and edits data for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepares and arranges statistical tables and charts for compilation into manuals, handbooks, reports and dashboards. Assist in creation of tables and graphs to be posted on the agency website/dashboards.
• Analyzes and interprets data, using statistical research programs or other methods, and makes projections based on statistical inference.
• Participate in the Congenital Syphilis Review Board and Task Force meetings.
• Follow-up on specified gonorrhea cases to obtain key information for the enhanced gonorrhea surveillance project through patient and/or provider interview.
• Being present in the office is an essential function of the position.

Education and Experience

Requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in public health, statistics, mathematics, or health science which includes 6 semester hours in epidemiological or statistical methods and 6 semester hours of other epidemiological or statistical coursework and 9 semester hours in statistical or epidemiological analysis. 

 

Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly and to perform simple arithmetic problems and operate basic computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.  Ability is required to write simple reports; to follow oral or written instructions; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability is required at this level include knowledge of epidemiology methods, human biology, laboratory methods, environmental analyses interpretation, parasitology, toxicology, immunology and pathology; of medical terminology; of statistical analysis, biometry, and demography; of epidemiological or statistical software; of social and economic conditions; and of current epidemiological developments and techniques.  Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to meet with the public and conduct public information programs; to write technical and non-technical information material; and to use a personal computer and applicable software.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office setting with a climate controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise level. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  This position requires long period of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Some work related travel is required.
