Team Overview

As a Privacy Consultant for TransUnion Africa, your primary purpose will be to support and drive compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and ensure the lawful processing of personal information. Through actively implementing data privacy efforts and driving a privacy culture, you will assist TransUnion in complying with POPIA, supporting the broader business in delivering trusted data, analytics, and risk management solutions that help clients make informed and accurate decisions. The team plays a key role in protecting consumer information, maintaining regulatory compliance, and reinforcing TransUnion's commitment to responsible data stewardship. The role forms part of the Governance, Risk and Compliance function and reports to the Senior Manager: Governance, Risk and Compliance.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

 

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of the governance framework, which will bring together statutory, mandatory and best practise requirements concerning data privacy management.
  • Maintain the processing register. Any instance of personal data processing should be logged in a processing register. The processing register should always be complete, up to date and maintained and presented in an auditable format. Where multiple and/or dispersed personal data sets exist, the register should clearly describe the processing chain (or supply chain), including any relevant third parties.
  • Personal data should be managed using a comprehensive life cycle from initial data acquisition to data archiving and deletion. The related process should identify phases of the life cycle as well as related management activities and controls.
  • Undertake data privacy governance assessments, report on findings, and drive remediation of findings identified.
  • Monitor data privacy incidents, to ensure it is dealt with efficiently, timeously and within the agreed SLA period.
  • Manage and track data privacy tasks and assist in managing data privacy projects.
  • Provide specialist data privacy training sessions for all levels of staff in response to company requirements and the changing data privacy governance agenda.
  • Liaise with IT and Business in order to ensure continued support and advise all internal teams in connection with and implementation of new or updates date privacy legislation and governance policies/procedures.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate data privacy risks.
  • Fulfil the role of a privacy champion, through actively supporting change, influencing peers and management, and driving a privacy culture.

 

Required Knowledge And Experiences

  • Business Analysis qualification and/or B.Com degree with at least 4 years Business Analysis experience
  • Experience in data mapping and data analysis is critical
  • Analytical skills and the ability to identify problems, gaps and contradictions
  • Financial Services/Credit Bureau industry experience
  • Proven ability to communicate to multiple audiences in written, verbal and presentation format
