Job Description:

Job Title: Truck Dispatcher

Department: Traffic

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

Assigns loads to drivers accurately and timely. Uses all resources available to cover loads and successfully service stores. Investigate shortages and delivery problems and implements solutions.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Director, Transportation Logistics

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calls drivers to bid or assign loads based on seniority. 75%
  • Creates loads for backhauls and direct store deliveries, coordinates with dispatch sheet in routing and distributes to appropriate department. 5%
  • Releases orders to grocery and perishable warehouses for product selection. 5%
  • Receives calls from stores regarding deliveries. 5%
  • Contacts store if problems with a delivery. 5%
  • Investigates shorts and longs on shipments and corrects problems. 5%
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time. 5%

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains attendance reports.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Must have the ability solve logical problems; several abstract and concrete, variables.
  • Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Must possess the ability to copy data from one record to another; make appointments; interpret written work instructions; interview to obtain basic information; and have increased contact with people.

Education and Experience:

  • High School or equivalent experience.
  •  Basic computer knowledge preferred.
  • 1 year of related work experience preferred.

None

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of 20 inches or less, with or without correction.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are performed in an office environment. There is constant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

PC with Excel, Access, Outlook, Manhattan, Prospero, Telephone, and copier.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with store personnel. Has occasional contact with the public.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including unlisted phone numbers of drivers, special deliveries, invoices.
