Director, Facility Management (Onsite, Minneapolis)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director, Facility Management, is an enterprise leader responsible for setting up and governing the organization-wide strategy for facilities, real estate, and property management. This role establishes long term vision, standards, and investment priorities across the organization’s national footprint and ensures alignment with organizational strategy, financial objectives, and risk management requirements. This role is accountable for optimizing the employee and donor experience through facilities strategy, while ensuring cost stewardship, compliance, and scalability to support organizational growth.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Enterprise Strategy & Governance:
• Establishes organization-wide standards, policies, and governance frameworks related to facilities, property management, space utilization, and real estate transactions.
• Provides long-term (multi-year) portfolio planning, including lease strategies, capital investment prioritization, and footprint optimization.
• Serves as executive advisor on facilities and real estate matters to senior leadership and enterprise stakeholders, ensuring alignment with mission, growth strategy, and risk tolerance.
• Advances enterprise real estate strategy in support of the organization’s “be there” strategic theme.
Capital, Financial, & Portfolio Accountability:
• Accountable for enterprise-level capital planning for facilities and real estate, including prioritization of major investments and lifecycle planning.
• Oversee operating and capital budgets at the portfolio level, balancing cost optimization with employee, donor, and operational experience.
• Evaluates financial tradeoffs and makes recommendations to executive leadership regarding facilities investments, revenue opportunities, and long-term financial impacts.
• Ensures alignment between facilities expenditures and enterprise financial strategy.
• Owns enterprise property management governance, including standards, requirements, and performance expectations, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and risk posture.
Leadership & Organizational Oversight:
• Provides leadership through managers and leaders responsible for facilities operations, property management, and workplace services.
• Sets expectations for leadership effectiveness, talent development, and succession planning within the function.
• Build scalable organizational structures and operating models to support current and future organizational needs.
• Holds leaders and vendors accountable for performance, outcomes, and adherence to enterprise standards.
Vendor Strategy, Risk & Compliance:
• Owns vendor strategy for facilities and real estate services, including selection criteria, performance standards, and governance models.
• Provides enterprise oversight of risk reduction strategies related to facilities, safety, compliance, and business continuity.
• Ensures facilities and real estate operations comply with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and risk management standards.
• Serves as the escalation point for significant facilities, safety, and real estate risks impacting the enterprise.
Facility Management Activities:
• Evaluates and sponsors revenue-generating opportunities related to facilities and real estate assets (e.g., conference services, parking, shared spaces).
• Provides strategic oversight and performance accountability for approved revenue programs, with day-to-day operations delegated to appropriate leaders.
• Partners with senior leaders to set direction for space utilization, workflow optimization, and facility investment priorities that support operational efficiency and scalability.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
• Enterprise facilities and real estate portfolio management
• Capital planning, lifecycle asset management, and long-term investment strategy
• Facilities governance models, standards-setting, and policy development
• Risk management, compliance, and safety frameworks
• Vendor strategy and contract governance at scale
• Financial analysis related to capital and operating expenditure
Ability to:
• Set strategic direction and translate organizational priorities into enterprise facilities and real estate strategies
• Exercise sound executive judgment in complex, high-impact decisions
• Influence and partner with senior leaders across the organization
• Balance competing priorities related to cost, experience, risk, and growth

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management or related field. An unrelated degree of CFM or Facilities Management Professional (FMP) certification may be substituted.
• Minimum of 10–12 years of progressive experience in facilities management, real estate, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years in enterprise-level leadership roles, providing strategic oversight and leading other leaders or managers
• Demonstrated experience in capital planning, portfolio strategy, and cross‑functional executive partnership
Additional Requirements:
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Available for periodic travel to various off-site locations.

• Certified Facilities Manager (CFM)
• IFMA or equivalent professional certification
