Role Purpose

Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables provides integrated subscription, research and advisory services to inform and support our client’s commercial and strategic decisions in the complex and rapidly changing electric power industry.

Combining our deep knowledge of solar, wind, storage, and grid technologies, with our global power and fuels modelling and analytical capabilities, Wood Mackenzie can provide data and insight spanning supply chain, technology costs, policy and market issues, fundamentals-based outlooks, price forecasting, asset valuation, and commodity market issues.

This role sits within Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Supply Chain team, with a primary focus on development and delivery of high-quality research and thought leadership for solar photovoltaic technology, supply chain and system costs in the Asia Pacific region. This includes engaging with clients, identifying emerging themes that will impact the industry and ensuring Wood Mackenzie is delivering cutting-edge research, data, and forecasts. 

The Senior Research Analyst will focus on the global solar module supply chain and support the development and operation of databases, models, data platforms and reports for our solar systems and technology coverage.

The responsibilities will include collecting market intelligence related to solar module supply chain technologies, component pricing, PV market supply/demand balance dynamics, and manufacturing capacity expansion/consolidation trends.

The role will require using data and intelligence to generate market insights and build analytical models to produce market forecasts. The Senior Research Analyst will be the co-owner of global solar module supply chain market coverage and will contribute to solar system pricing analysis in collaboration with other researchers.

The responsibilities will include guiding and developing junior analysts on the solar team and coordinating cross-technology research with other analysts on the power and renewables teams. Also, the role will require serving as a thought leader and a primary point of contact with industry stakeholders and clients in solar PV supply chain research, especially within the APAC region.

Main Responsibilities

Solar PV supply chain market and technology trends, cost and price forecasting

  • Lead the development of original market research and analysis on solar module technology evolution, cost and pricing forecast models, supply chain trends, competitive vendor landscape, and international trade dynamics.
  • Contribute to market analysis on solar system costs and technology trends globally. Own the development and improvement of Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary analytical models that underpin the market coverage.
  • Strengthen datasets through surveys, interviews, and secondary research. Refresh the analytical models with updated data regularly.
  • Lead high-level discussions and analysis on the future of solar PV costs and prices, charting a clear route forward for the industry.
  • Work on the leading edge of the industry, collaborating with top developers, investors, and suppliers to map out the implications of risk, supply and demand dynamics, and commodity pricing pressures to directly inform their investment strategies.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with supply chain and cost experts across technologies, market analysts covering outlooks, global power teams, and LCOE modelling experts to ensure your analysis feeds directly into other global economic models.
  • Monitor, maintain, and refresh relevant data through primary and secondary research, ensuring data quality, consistency, and accuracy reflect real-world market realities. 

Research, Analysis and Report Writing

  • Produce market reports and industry insight pieces covering the solar PV supply chain and technology.

  • Ensure all research deliverables are executed and delivered in a timely fashion to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with peers across Wood Mackenzie to support research reports, conferences, marketing services and editorial coverage.
  • Be a thought leader of solar systems and technology. Author insight pieces for clients and the broader industry. Present Wood Mackenzie’s research at industry events around the globe.

Networking, Industry Collaboration and Consulting

  • Build Your Brand: Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker. Strengthen your own brand and the Wood Mackenzie brand by speaking at conferences, hosting webinars, and engaging with the media.
  • Client Relationships: Maintain and expand strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients across the global renewable energy sector.
  • Advisory Support: Provide technical and commercial insight to support specific consulting advisory assignments across the solar energy sector.
  • Business Development: Work directly with sales and marketing teams via internal and external communications to help generate new sales, build larger programmes for existing clients, and effectively market completed research.

About You

The Ideal Candidate: You bring hands-on experience working directly for a renewable energy developer, investor, or supplier. You possess a deep, practical understanding of project costs and pricing structures derived from direct exposure to the solar PV supply chain.
 

Qualifications and Skills:

Solar supply chain experience: Extensive experience in the solar power industry, with considerable focus on the supply chain.  The ideal candidate will have a mix of experiences in research or consulting, as well as hands-on experience working at a renewable developer, a company in the solar industry supply chain, or a large power consumer. Deep understanding of global solar supply chain industry trends, challenges, and opportunities and a good network of solar industry contacts

Analytical skills: Adept in translating complex datasets into clear insights, including leveraging AI and other analytical tools to drive efficiency and unlock original insights.

  • Commercial acumen: The ability to take complex data and technical analysis and transform it into actionable, commercially focused insights.

  • Detail-oriented and organised: Excellent problem-solving, documentation, communication, and organisational skills, with a sharp eye for data accuracy.

  • Collaborative and self-driven: Highly motivated self-starter who can switch seamlessly between working as an independent individual contributor and collaborating within a matrixed global team.

  • Global engagement: An engaging nature, capable of connecting authentically with co-workers, clients, and industry stakeholders across the globe in a wide range of professional settings.

  • Communication skills: Strong listening, critical thinking, presentation, and writing skills, with the confidence to present to senior audiences.
