Job Summary

The Startup Manager will manage, monitor, and control the commissioning, startup, testing, client turn over, and initial operation activities to ensure the work is performed in conformance with the project objectives and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leads the overall safety, quality, schedule, commissioning, staffing, material control and field-based procurement for the startup and commissioning process.
  2. Plans, implements and directs pre-commissioning testing programs and start-up procedures on projects.
  3. Responsible for developing startup schedule and milestones for incorporation into project schedule to assist project team in ensuring a successful overall schedule completion.
  4. Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating all assignments for start-up staff.
  5. Responsible for the safe startup and plant operations activities including equipment and system checkout, inspection for proper installation, review for correct design and evaluation of expected system and equipment operation parameters under temporary start up conditions.
  6. Reviews design changes and provide reports to engineering liaison to assist in design change preparation.

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. Customer service oriented and ability to work with others – team player.
  2. Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  3. Good communication skills with co-workers and subordinates.
  4. Good decision making abilities and able to troubleshoot and come up with solutions.
  5. Knowledgeable of safe equipment operation and controls, equipment protective systems and devices, LOTO procedures and hazardous materials communication system.
  6. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  7. There are 3 steps for this position based on years of demonstrated experience at turnover, pre- commissioning, commissioning, and/or start up within the construction industry: Step I: 5-10 yrs, Step II: 10-15 yrs, Step Sr.: 15+ yrs

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
  2. May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  3. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  4. May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors
  5. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
 
  1. Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
  2. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  3. Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day
  4. Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis
  5. Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
