To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Senior Environment Health & Safety Engineer located in Guadalajara, North.

Reporting to the EH&S Manager, the EH&S Engineer role will be responsible for charge of developing, implementing and monitoring company environmental safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Accident-free, healthy work.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Environmental & Asset Integrity: SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure): 230 kV transformers contain thousands of gallons of mineral oil.  must manage Semarnat/Profepa-regulated SPCC plans and ensure secondary containment (pits) are clear of debris and water.

  • SF6 Gas Management: Hexafluoride (SF6) used in 230 kV breakers is a potent greenhouse gas. You must track leak rates and ensure recovery procedures follow EPA or local environmental standards.

  • Emergency Response & Preparedness: High-Voltage Rescue Plans: Generic CPR isn't enough. You must train teams on pole-top rescue or bucket truck evacuation and ensure local Fire Departments understand the "Do Not Spray Water" protocols for energized equipment.

  • Fire Suppression Systems: Monitoring the readiness of deluge systems or specialized dry-chemical suppression near the main busbars.

  • Human Factor & Training

  • Qualified Person Certification: You must define the criteria for who is a "Qualified Person" for 63, 115 and 220 kV. This includes verifying their ability to distinguish live parts and determine the nominal voltage of exposed parts.

  • Contractor Management: Cogeneration plants often use third-party high-voltage specialists. You are responsible for the Bridging Document that aligns their safety protocols with your facility's internal standards.

  • Critical Infrastructure Integrity

  • Predictive Maintenance Oversight: Monitoring the results of Thermography (Infrared scans), Oil Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) for transformers, and SF6 gas levels in circuit breakers to prevent catastrophic equipment failure.

  • Step and Touch Potential: Ensuring the integrity of the substation grounding grid (crushed rock depth, fence grounding, and mesh connectivity) to prevent electrocution during a ground fault.

  • The "Must-Have" KPI's for your Role: Zero Energy Verification (ZEV) audit scores. PPE Integrity: Recertification logs for high-voltage gloves (tested every 6 months) and hot sticks.

  • Near-Miss Reporting: Specifically tracking any "flash-over" or "corona discharge" observations.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Solid experience in EH&S or related positions.

  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience.

  • Managing people / Direct reports experience.

  • Flexible schedule with availability to support night shift operations.

  • Ability to comprehend, manage and / or guides Sustainability projects.

  • Demonstrates expert operations, technical and people and/or process skills as well as customer (external and internal) relationship skills.

  • Demonstrates mastery of functional knowledge in relation to other functions and a complete comprehension of the function and those of related businesses.

  • Demonstrates detailed expertise in very complex functional/technical area or broad breadth of knowledge in multiple areas; comprehends the strategic impact of the function across sites.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: NFPA 70E training, Natural Gas Training, ISO 45001/14001 Auditor, ISO 31000 Risk management, Emergency medical certification and Hazmat desired.

  • Intermediate English

  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and handle small components. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
